Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to my deeper dive into today’s Connections answers. The idea behind this is to help clear things up for anyone who isn’t sure how today’s groups fit together.

I’m going to assume that you’ve already beaten today’s game. We’re going straight into spoiler territory here. So, consider this your one and only warning.

Today’s NYT Connections Answers Explained
Connections – Yellow Group
🟨 associated with Hansel and Gretel (BREADCRUMB, FOREST, OVEN, WITCH)
These are all elements of the fairytale Hansel and Gretel, which was published by the Brothers Grimm in the early 1800s.
After a leaving a trail of BREADCRUMBs so they can find their way home from a FOREST turns out to be an ill-fated idea, Hansel and Gretel get lost in a forest. They end up at the house of a WITCH who wants to fatten up Hansel and eat him. However, Gretel pushes the WITCH into an OVEN to save her brother and allow the siblings to escape.
Connections – Green Group
🟩 bit of cereal (CLUSTER, FLAKE, LOOP, PUFF)
These might refer to the cereals called Clusters, Bran Flakes/Corn Flakes, Froot Loops and Cocoa Puffs.
Connections – Blue Group
🟦 Demi Moore movies (DISCLOSURE, GHOST, STRIPTEASE, THE SUBSTANCE)
The category title takes care of things here. Of these, I’ve only seen THE SUBSTANCE. I love that a horror movie as wild as this was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. I enjoyed the film a lot. I ought to watch the three others mentioned here at some point!
Connections – Purple Group
🟪 ending in methods of transportation (INCUBUS, OSCAR, QUATRAIN, SITUATIONSHIP)
These refer to:
- INCUBUS > bus
- OSCAR > car
- QUATRAIN > train
- SITUATIONSHIP > ship
Connections – Red Herrings
GHOST, WITCH and INCUBUS are all supernatural/folklore entities.
Demi Moore was nominated for an OSCAR for THE SUBSTANCE, which I thought was a fun nod/Easter Egg.
