Bridgerton keeps bouncing all around the #1 spot on Netflix as shows pass it then retreat again. First it was the low-budget comedy Tires, and now it’s Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult. I mean, if that’s not an attention-grabbing title, I don’t know what is.
As you might expect, this is a documentary series. It spans three hour-long episodes and is described as the following:
“Isolation. Exploitation. Abuse. Allegations against a management company accused of being a religious cult are explored in this investigative docuseries.”
The main villain in the story is Robert Shinn, and there’s a lot more to the story than the documentary can cover. Here’s our Monica Mercuri with further information:
“In 2023, Davis, Fisher, Douglas, and others joined a cross-complaint with the former church members against Shinn, his wife, their entities and other affiliated individuals. “The claims accuse them of fraud, forced labor and human trafficking, as well as Robert of sexual battery. The case is scheduled to go to trial in July 2025 in Los Angeles; to date, no criminal charges have been filed,” per CNN.”
As for the rest of the list, Bridgerton is #2 but again, I think it will probably go back up again once people finish this documentary. Viewing hours remain sky high even as we get further from its release here. And remember, this is only the first part of the season.
Tires and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory are holding at #3 and #4. I am particularly impressed with Tires given that it’s barely even two total hours of episodes, but it’s clearly being widely watched. Baby Reindeer has finally fallen out of the top 5 months after release, but it remains at #7, really a wild run for the miniseries. Queen Charlotte exemplifies Bridgerton fever as the prequel released in 2023 is at #6 just because people are so hyped about the return of the main show.
Elsewhere, former #1s A Man in Full and The Roast of Tom Brady are at #9 and #10, and I remain amazed that almost a month after it happened, people are still watching a three-hour roast of Tom Brady. Was it really that good?? I remain skeptical.
As for Dancing for the Devil, unless it’s incredibly compelling I don’t think it will last at #1 too long, and Bridgerton will reclaim that spot for a third time.
