The beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 arrives this week and it’s coming with what feels like something close to the complete gaming experience. We’d already been treated to the preview of the single-player campaign. But on Wednesday the multiplayer trailer dropped with details about that portion of the beta experience. One thing to know before Friday. The Aug. 21 weekend is early access and it requires a pre-order, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. The genuinely open weekend runs Aug. 28 through Sept. 1, needs no pre-order, and is the first one that includes Nintendo Switch 2. Call of Duty: NEXT airs Friday immediately before the early access servers open. The full game arrives Oct. 23.

With action beginning on Friday, August 21, it’s nearly time to delve into the next chapter of first-person shooter supremacy. The trailers look excellent and the expansive beta should go a long way toward building momentum toward the full release in October.

The Dreadnought has me excited. Commanding a vehicle with that much power and style is an attractive concept that I can’t wait to explore, even though I’m more of a Free-for-All guy. And I don’t imagine the Dreadnought will be as fun to control in that mode.
