Cohesity’s Innovative Approach Brings Enterprise Data To LLMs

Realizing the full business value of generative AI requires integrating enterprise data with LLMs to provide context-aware responses to natural language queries. Cohesity’s new Gaia offering addresses this need with a unique approach.

Cohesity’s Gaia is its recently introduced AI-powered enterprise search assistant that combines a unique approach to retrieval augmented generation and large language models to provide conversational search capabilities. It enables an enterprise to interact with its data using natural language, but it does this using enterprise backup data.

Enabling Enterprise LLMs with Gaia

The key innovation in Cohesity Gaia is its use of enterprise backup data instead of more traditional data retrieval approaches to quickly and accurately deliver context-appropriate responses based on an enterprise’s own data. This allows Cohesity Gaia to offer rapid, insightful search results across a company’s data landscape, whether the data resides in cloud or hybrid environments.

Leveraging RAG and LLMs, Cohesity Gaia offers a conversational AI assistant that enables users to interact with their stored data as if they were querying a knowledgeable colleague. Users can ask complex questions about their data, and Gaia processes these inquiries to fetch and analyze relevant information from its vast indexes.

Unlike traditional search engines that require users to manually sift through vast amounts of data, Cohesity Gaia simplifies this process by directly answering questions based on the indexed data. For example, suppose a user needs to understand why costs have increased in a particular region. In that case, they can simply ask Cohesity Gaia, which will pull relevant data, analyze it, and provide an answer.

Cohesity Gaia is built on Cohesity’s existing architecture that maintains a fully indexed backup of all files across all workloads and at all points in time. This ensures that all indexed data is immediately available for reading and analysis, enabling real-time data access akin to a data lake and avoiding the time-consuming data reconstruction process.

Gaia is built with stringent security measures in mind, employing zero-trust security principles and granular, role-based access controls, ensuring that only authorized personnel have access to the data. This helps to protect sensitive information and comply with various regulatory frameworks.

Analyst’s Take

Cohesity Gaia stands out for its unique approach that leverages its Cohesity Data Cloud to provide organizational context to an LLM, allowing businesses to turn static backup data into a dynamic, actionable asset. By enabling real-time, conversational access to data across various storage environments—including multi-cloud platforms—Gaia enhances enterprise agility and insight without the traditional latency associated with data retrieval.

The platform’s adherence to zero-trust principles and granular, role-based access controls addresses the growing concerns around data breaches and regulatory compliance. This is not merely a functional upgrade; it’s a strategic enhancement that aligns with global trends toward stricter data governance.

However, the long-term success of Cohesity Gaia hinges on its scalability and the extent to which it can support diverse data types and sources over time. Initial support for platforms like Microsoft 365 and OneDrive is a strong start, but expansion to include more varied workloads will be critical to its long-term success and adoption.

Gaia strengthens Cohesity’s already-strong portfolio of data management and protection capabilities. Its strength in this market isn’t going unnoticed.

Cohesity recently announced an expanded collaboration with IBM to accelerate the development of cyber resilience capabilities. The partnership addresses the critical need for increased data security in hybrid cloud environments. The partnership includes integrating Cohesity’s technology with IBM’s cyber resilience platform, IBM Storage Defender.

Additionally, Cohesity completed its Series F financing round, with IBM joining Nvidia as a strategic investor. The collaboration aims to strengthen customers’ abilities to recover from cyber-attacks and data breaches, leveraging advanced technologies like AI and event monitoring to protect and manage data across various platforms.

By consistently pushing the boundaries of what is possible in data management and expanding its capabilities to meet the complex demands of modern businesses, Cohesity sets itself up as a compelling partner in the digital transformation journeys of any enterprise. Cohesity promises to remain a key player in the rapidly evolving data management landscape.
