Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Hashira Training has already been released in Japan, and came to limited theaters in the US late in February, but if you wanted to watch the new season from the comfort of your Crunchyroll streaming app, we now have a date for that. It’s a little ways off, but not too bad.
It has just been announced that the Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc will debut on Crunchyroll on May 12, 2024 in Japanese. That’s a while after it has already premiered elsewhere, but fans will no doubt be excited to finally have a date to put on their calendars.
Here’s how the Hashira Training Arc is described:
“Tanjiro goes to see the Stone Hashira, Himejima, who intends to prepare him for the battles to come. The training to become a Hashira—a high-ranking member of the Demon Slayer Corps—is intense and demanding. Earning Himejima’s approval seems impossible, but Tanjiro won’t give up! Meanwhile, the demon lord Muzan continues to search for the location of Nezuko and Ubuyashiki.”
This release is well ahead of the gaps between past Demon Slayer seasons, as using old spacing metrics, it could have released an entire year later in 2025. But now ufotable has accelerated the process, and this will be here much sooner than it could have been otherwise.
With this new announcement of the Crunchyroll release date, we also have a new trailer that has premiered showing off more from the upcoming season:
I wrote about this previously, but here is the list of training exercises that Tanjiro must go through to become a Hashira, and which Hashiras administrate those. I suppose this could be considered a spoiler, but here you go. See you May 12:
Stamina Training – Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui – He’s back! And teaching Tanjiro to go the distance during fihgt.
Quick Movement Training – Mist Hashira, Muchiro Tokito – As we saw in the Swordsmith Village Arc, no one can move quite like the Mist Hashira, one of the rare times we’ve witnessed a Hashira kill an Upper Rank Demon totally singlehandedly without Tanjiro and company helping at all.
Flexibility Training – Love Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji – I suppose the jokes write themselves here, but there’s a lot of dancing in leotards involved with this one.
Sword Skill Revision – Serpant Hashira, Obanai Iguro – We’ve glimpsed him a few times, including a tiny bit this season, but he will be working on swordplay.
Infinite Pounding Training – Wind Hashira – Sanemi Shinazugawa – There has to be a better way to say that. The ability to take a lot of damage in a fight.
Muscle Reinforcement Training – Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima – Withstanding cold water and carrying logs and pushing giant rocks. World’s Strongest Man stuff.
Final Training – Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka – Not quite sure what the last step is here yet.
