I figured we’d start getting more and more Blizzard IP crossovers with Diablo 4 as time went on, and now we have probably our biggest one yet for the game, a series of five skins, one for each class, pulled from World of Warcraft directly.
The five skins in the shop right now are:
Barbarian Set – Varian Wrynn
Druid Set – Xavius
Nercromancer Set – Xal’atath
Sorcerer Set – Kael’thas
Rogue Set – You guessed it, Sylvanas
There’s also WoW’s Celestial horse as a mount.
It’s actually kind of interesting because the sets, despite being made for specific WoW characters, have to work on both genders, so hey, if you ever wanted to be male Sylvanas or female Varian Wrynn, now’s your chance. They’re actually really, really well done. They look awesome.
So what’s the catch? I mean, you know the catch, right.
The skins are enormously expensive, as are most of the ones dozens and dozens we see in the Diablo shop. But these are definitely on the highest end. Each skin costs 2,800 platinum which is $25. Thankfully they at least don’t make you over-buy a more expensive bundle, though they do for the 2,500 platinum horse which would still cost $25.
I have long been frustrated with Diablo 4 shoving so many incredible cosmetics in the store for ridiculous prices, given how enjoyable earning cosmetics is to many players in games like this, and you can earn practically none. At least few good ones. Especially annoying is that when the game launched they bragged openly about how the in-game sets would be just as cool as the paid sets. That was true, at launch, but immediately when seasons launched the paid skins got way better and the free skins essentially stopped existing at all. Every season there is a usually comically bad set of all-class armor you can earn for free, but that’s it outside of very, very few non-horse cosmetics in the main game, and only a couple new item additions you can actually transmog.
But nothing is changing. Skin prices have not gone down and they are all still mostly awesome it makes me sad I would have to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars every season to get them. But they’re doing it for a reason, and I guess it’s working for them. Anyway, I…still might buy those Sylvanas and Xal’atath sets…
