Speaker behemoth JBL has announced the launch of JBL BandBox, a range of AI-powered smart practice amplifiers and portable speakers designed for beginner and experienced musicians alike.
The all-new JBL BandBox Solo and JBL BandBox Trio have AI-powered vocal and instrument separation in real time. Both devices also have the classic JBL signature sound, built-in effects and extensive practice tools. The products offer the freedom of portable audio with tools designed for musicians. JBL says a BandBox lets you practice, jam and create anywhere you want.
The Power Of AI
At the heart of BandBox is Stem AI, an intelligent vocal and instrument separation technology that can isolate or remove vocals, guitar or drums from any track in real time. Whether you’re learning a solo, rehearsing with friends or improvising over a favorite song, BandBox can turn any track into a custom backing mix that’s tailored to your instrument.
The real-time AI-powered stem separation offers musicians control over their practice sessions. Instead of just playing along with a song, they can make the performance part of the mix with the backing of a favorite track.
Designed For Musicians
JBL’s BandBox Solo is for individual players who want to simplify and level up their practice setup without impacting sound quality or creative control. Although it’s small, the Solo is fully featured to let the user plug in their instrument, play and create.
Solo includes one guitar/microphone input, making it suitable for guitarists, singer-songwriters, home players or anyone practicing with minimal gear. Users can stream favorite songs and instantly engage Stem AI to remove or reduce specific elements from the track such as a guitar part and take that instrument on themselves while still having the rest of the backing of the original song.
With the JBL ONE app, users can select from vintage and modern amp models to match the mood, plus there are classic effects like phaser, chorus and reverb, without the need for external pedals. Presets are available for creating an individual sound.
A built-in looper provides rhythmic layering, while a pitch shifter and tuner can ensure the playing is always in key and on pitch. The app’s interface makes this accessible without requiring advanced technical skills.
For Groups And Gigging
While BandBox Solo is designed for individual use, JBL’s BandBox Trio builds on the same foundation but has features designed for group setups. BandBox Trio has four instrument inputs, making it suitable for small bands, jam sessions or duos who want to perform together without a full setup. Levels can be balanced, tones shaped, and effects applied directly from the speaker using the built-in four-channel mixer.
Sessions can be extended simply by swapping rechargeable power packs. The replaceable battery is suitable for long jamming sessions or rehearsals. The unit also has enhanced physical controls that give users more tactile command over their sound without relying solely on the app.
“JBL BandBox is created with musicians’ needs in mind and made possible by cutting-edge technology. This is the first speaker to feature an on-device Stem AI algorithm capable of removing vocals or instruments, without the need for cloud processing or an internet connection. With this breakthrough, it’s easier than ever to practice, improve and enjoy playing music either on your own or with friends,” says Carsten Olesen, President of consumer audio at JBL’s parent company Harman.
