This is by no means the first figure of Samus Aran, but her Metroid Dread incarnation in figma form is very impressive indeed.
The new Power Suit seen in Metroid Dread is an upgrade from the Fusion Suit from Metroid Fusion. Still utilizing Metroid DNA, it affords Samus immunity from X Parasites. With footage of X Parasites shown to be on the planet ZDR, Samus is one of the few people that could survive an encounter with them.
So begins the journey Samus undertakes in Metroid Dread, which is not only an excellent game but one that finally closes off multiple decades-worth of narrative regarding the previously elusive Chozo.
Over the years, Good Smile Company have done a bunch of very good Samus figures and this is no exception. In fact, it’s quite the step up.
Firstly, you not only get the figure of Samus in her new Power Suit from Metroid Dread, you also get a dinky Morph Ball too. Following that, you get the new Omega Cannon arm part (shown below) and a fun party piece that allows Samus to cling to a wall.
With the latter, the hand and foot are already affixed to the panel and you just clip Samus on. However, the fun part is that the panel has a magnet at the rear, so Samus can indeed hang free as per the game.
The big improvement over previous figma releases though is the intricacy of the paintjob and overall sculpt. For a figure of this size, the amount and finesse of the detailing is impressively done.
Even more so with the range of motion the figure’s articulation affords. Allowing you to create all manner of poses from the game.
Back when I reviewed Metroid Dread in 2021, I was blown away by how good the game was. From the excellent level design to the frenetic combat. So to finally have a really good figure of the new Power Suit is wonderful really.
