Netflix loves its absurdly long breaks between shows, and fans wanting to know when season 3 of Ginny and Georgia will be released finally have something to celebrate.
Netflix has now confirmed that production of season 3 of Ginny and Georgia has begun, showing off the cast going over scripts and hanging out together for the first time in ages:

It has been a long, long wait for fans trying to get to even just three seasons of the show. Ginny and Georgia debuted in February of 2021 and it took until January of 2023 for season 2 to arrive, almost two years later. Now, production is just beginning in April of 2024, meaning it will likely be the end of this year/the beginning of next year for the show to finish both filming and post-production. So, another two year gap between seasons, most likely.
Netflix has got to get a handle on this, as it continues to happen with so many of its shows. The few-month writer and actors’ strike is not solely responsible for this. Ginny and Georgia is a good show and performs well on Netflix, and one of the reasons the service likes it so much is because it is cheap. This is not a series that needs any sort of wild VFX, just its scripts, a handful of shooting locations and its (non A-list, also relatively cheap) actors. There is no reason we should be waiting two full years for new episodes of a show like this. It’s bad enough when it’s things like Stranger Things, but Ginny and Georgia? Ginny and Georgia??
The good news is that the show has done so well on Netflix the past two seasons that it has already been renewed for season 4. In May 2023, it was announced that it was getting greenlit for seasons three and four at the same time, and again, if this was greenlit in May 2023 without any sort of significant wait to get out of limbo, how are we just now starting production a full year later? I don’t understand how this keeps happening.
Regardless, it’s an update, at least. Something is moving. We will have more of an idea of a timeline in the near future, I imagine, but I would not expect to see this out before early 2025 at this rate.
