Goldring has returned to the vinyl turntable market with the launch of its first new model in two decades, marking a significant re-entry into the turntable arena for the classic British manufacturer of phono cartridges.
Developed in collaboration with a renowned British hi-fi manufacturer, GR3 is equipped with the award-winning Goldring E3 moving magnet cartridge and a built-in phono pre-amplifier that enables pairing with any amplifier or powered speaker.
The Goldring E3 moving magnet cartridge is pre-installed on the pre-adjusted tonearm. The cartridge has a stiff and lightweight aluminum cantilever for accurate tracking, more detail and lower distortion, while a dual magnet generator produces better channel separation. Designed and engineered in the UK, Goldring says that micro-adjustments made during production ensure a consistent performance for the life of the product.
The GR3’s platter is made of phenolic resin with an enhanced fly-wheel effect. By distributing most of the platter’s mass at the outside of rotation, the inertia is increased and speed variations are reduced, giving the GR3 excellent wow and flutter figures.
The GR3 features a high-gloss black plinth and has a hinged Perspex dust cover, giving the turntable a sophisticated look. And because not all amplifiers or powered speakers have the necessary gain and EQ settings to accommodate the signal from a turntable, the GR3 has an integrated phono pre-amplifier. This means the turntable can be connected to any amplifier or powered speaker without the need for extra phono amplification or boxes.
Goldring’s sister company QED is known for its range of speaker cables and interconnects, so the GR3 can be specified with the choice of a QED 1.5m phono-to-phono or 3m phono-to-3.5 mm cable for plugging the GR3 into a compatible amplifier or powered speakers.
