Hey, everyone! It’s almost the weekend, and I hope it’s a rejuvenating couple of days for you.
I’ve heard from quite a few readers who say they enjoy these intros. I’ll be honest, coming up with something new to share here every day isn’t always easy. Sometimes I’ll see an item in the news that leads me down a certain path, or maybe a piece of art will provide a spark. Perhaps I’ll trigger a certain memory that I feel might be pertinent to share.
Your feedback has encouraged me not to be lazy with these introductions and, as a result, it’s helped to expand my worldview and learn new things. Thanks for inspiring me. I appreciate you.
Before we begin, I’ve set up a discussion group for NYT Connections and this column on Discord. We have a great little community over there and we chat about more than NYT games. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot.
It’s also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare(!) occasions that I mess something up.
Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Friday, March 7, are coming right up.
How To Play Connections
Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT website or Games app.
You’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.
There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.
Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.
If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.
If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication’s Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.

My latest perfect game extends my streak to double digits. Here’s how I fared:

I was very excited by the theme of today’s grid since I absolutely love Severance. The names in the center squares are four of the show’s main characters while Lumon is the name of the strange and dangerous corporation they work for.
Still, I presumed that those would not form a group, a suspicion that was confirmed when the greens clicked. I figured that group might have been purple, but nope!
The yellows were next as those seemed clear enough to me. I then had to go with a guess of the four city names since nothing else was gelling. Sure enough, the blues were as simple as that – but it took me a while to figure out a fun clue for that one!
I didn’t figure out the purple connection before submitting it, but thankfully I didn’t have to! I don’t think I would have figured that one out. The fruits in question are, of course, apple, date, lemon and peach.

P.S. There’s really only one option for today’s recommendation and that’s Severance. There are a lot of reasons why it’s been a hit for Apple TV+, but the main one is that it’s been a brilliant show so far. I can’t think of a series that has tickled my brain this way since Lost captivated much of the planet. I hope Severance does a better job of keeping its focus.
For the uninitiated, Severance is a show that concerns a group of people who willingly have an implant placed in their brain that effectively splits them into two people: their work selves and the person they are away from the office. Those who undertake the severance procedure have their workplace memories and experiences completely separated from the rest of their life. These folks literally leave everything at the office, and none of them actually know what their work is about.
Lumon, the biotech company they work for, is absolutely bizarre and very cult-like. There’s a lot of mystery surrounding this company and what it does. Severance is an odd show, but it’s absolutely captivating. Last week’s episode, the seventh of the second series, shed a bit more light on what’s going on here . At the same time, it broke my heart. This show is one of my favorite things going at the minute:
