All the Wordle’s a stage, and all the puzzle solvers merely players. And here we are again, ready to solve another word puzzle and hopefully get some Competitive Wordle points since it’s 2XP Friday!
I must admit, I’m a little burnt out this week. Maybe I need a nap or a vacation. Maybe it’s just winter chill seeping into my bones. Whatever it is, my motivation is taking a hit. So it goes.
We’re almost halfway through the first month of 2024, folks. I have a feeling this year is going to fly by.
Alright, Wordle time!

Wordle Bot Analysis
After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.
I was thinking about TV shows and casting choices when I made my first guess today. I’m a little surprised actor never occurred to me before now. It ended up being a very strong opener, leaving me with three yellow boxes and (I later learned) only 36 remaining possible solutions.
From here, I knew I needed another vowel. My gut was to guess hoist but then I figured I might as well try to reposition the letters I already had, so I went with store. Good thing, too, as this really narrowed the field and left me with just 3 remaining solutions. I only thought of two: route and forte but Wordle Bot informed me that torte also would have worked. Duh!
Fortunately, I took the right path, or, well route and got in three. Huzzah!
Today’s Score
I was super happy to guess in three because I figured I would at least break even with the Wordle Bot but no! Using its new favorite word—trace—the Bot guessed in just 2! That means I got 1 point for guessing in three and then lost that point for losing to the Bot. I get zero points. And since it’s 2XP Friday, well, I still get zero points. Lame!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “route” comes from the Old French “route,” which in turn was derived from the Latin “rupta (via),” meaning “broken (way).” This Latin term is a form of “rumpere,” meaning “to break.” The idea behind this etymology is that a route is a way that has been broken through, or more figuratively, established, through an otherwise unmarked landscape. The evolution of the word in English retained this sense of a path or way that has been laid out or designated.
