iOS 18—This Next Apple Upgrade Will Change Your iPhone Forever

Apple’s iOS 18 is launching in June at its Worldwide Developers Conference and the iPhone upgrade will be Apple’s biggest yet. That’s because iOS 18 comes with multiple enhancements fueled by artificial intelligence (AI) that will completely transform your iPhone.

Apple is already talking about the game-changing nature of AI, with CEO Tim Cook recently telling shareholders the iPhone maker will “break new ground” in 2024, according to MacRumors.

In Apple’s annual shareholders meeting, Cook said: “We believe it will unlock transformative opportunities for our users.”

And it looks like the company will plough ahead with many of the AI changes in iOS 18, despite resistance from some corners. The iPhone maker’s shareholders rejected a labor-backed request for an AI transparency report looking into whether Apple is using AI ethically, Bloomberg reported.

So, what can iPhone users expect when Apple launches iOS 18 in a couple of months’ time?

AI Makes iOS 18 Apple’s Biggest iPhone Update yet

“I’m told that the new operating system is seen within the company as one of the biggest iOS updates—if not the biggest—in the company’s history,” Bloomberg Apple commentator Mark Gurman wrote in his Power On newsletter. “With that knowledge, Apple’s developers conference in June should be pretty exciting.”

Gurman had already highlighted Apple’s AI ambitions last year, describing how the iPhone maker was halting work on iOS 18 to debug the software and focus on improving its performance.

Among the AI features coming in iOS 18 are AI -enhanced Siri and auto-completion and auto-summarizing features in Apple apps, underpinned by the iPhone maker’s large language model Ajax.

The roll out of AI features will be a gradual process—not all the new capabilities are coming with iOS 18. However, from the sounds of it, the next Apple update is certainly one to watch.

What To Know Ahead Of iOS 18’s Launch

The iOS 18 AI features are exciting, but sadly, they won’t be available for all iPhones. If you have the iPhone 11 and later, you are likely to be able to run iOS 18. However, a leaked list posted on X (formerly Twitter), then deleted suggests iOS 18 will also be compatible with the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, MacRumors reports.

When AI-enabled features arrive on iOS 18, it’s important to consider security and privacy. AI chatbots collect large amounts of data, so it makes sense to limit what you tell them.

No doubt Apple will be launching security and privacy features to control its AI enhancements, so follow me for updates on all the capabilities coming in iOS 18.
