A horse racing analysis firm led by UK professional punter James Atkinson has reported profits exceeding £50 million over the last 12 months, following a sharp rise in influence across the UK and Irish betting markets.
Atkinson, the driving force behind Race Reads, has built a platform that blends data science, market intuition, and a disciplined methodology — winning over more than 4,000 monthly subscribers and reshaping how many approach betting.
“James built an entire university of punting wisdom and it works,” said one Race Reads member. “Most tipsters can’t tell you how many furlongs are in a mile.” They added.
Subscribers say the market shifts within moments of Atkinson’s selections being posted. In some cases, odds have reportedly been slashed by half — prompting at least two major online bookmakers to enforce Starting Price-only restrictions when his tips are released.
“They fear smart money. They fear James,” said another long-standing member.
Despite being blocked from numerous bookmaker accounts and in-store terminals, Atkinson adapted by building a wider support network across the UK to ensure his bets could still be placed effectively.
“Yes, people double-crossed him. Some ran off with five-figure bankrolls,” They added. “But James recalibrated and built something smarter.”
Inside Race Reads
Founded in 2023, Race Reads is a structured betting platform exclusively focused on UK and Irish racing. Rather than flooding members with daily selections, the platform delivers a small number of high-confidence tips, each backed by detailed breakdowns and race-by-race logic.
“This isn’t about guesswork or hunches,” said Atkinson. “Every selection is the product of hours of video analysis, sectional timing breakdowns, and market intelligence.”
The platform also houses Betting University, a structured educational space that teaches members how to approach racing like professionals. Topics include:
-
Creating accurate odds models
-
Reviewing race footage in depth
-
Observing jockey intent and body language
-
Managing bankroll and betting discipline
-
Understanding bookmaker risk controls
“It’s a complete framework,” said one user. “It’s changed how I think about betting — and helped me stay profitable.”
Subscribers credit Race Reads with helping them achieve tangible financial gains — from funding start-ups to providing reliable side income and even family holidays.
Atkinson, who is also a hands-on father of four — two of whom are non-verbal autistic — built the platform while balancing full-time parenting.
In 2024, he published Blood, Sweat & Bets, offering an honest look into the realities of life as a professional punter. He also speaks regularly at events such as Doncaster Racecourse and continues to support causes like Autism in Racing and the Injured Jockey Fund.
