Capcom has unveiled a new strategy game called Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess and it looks genuinely amazing.
The game is clearly an interesting mix of action and strategy, with the player commanding units in real-time. While it’s being called a strategy game, it feels more like a mix of action and real-time strategy in the classic manner of something like Herzog Zwei.
In that the player leads the action on the battlefield and is as much a part of the combat as the units you command.
The setting is also wonderful, as it’s based in ancient Japan. Although through a very mythological lens. In some ways, it feels like a modern take on Okami, which was another wonderful game.
However, what really stands out is just how much it screams that this is clearly a Capcom game. From the art direction to the animation, as well as the clearly exacting gameplay, this feels like is a real return to form for the company and something I am more than happy to champion.
Not that Capcom doesn’t pump out great games already, but this is an all-new property and that’s depressingly rare these days. So I am glad that Capcom has gone all in for something like this.
The new gameplay trailer (shown below) also gives a really solid breakdown of what we should expect. With daytime sections where you cleanse the area of monsters and then the night time sections being full on combat.
While we don’t have a specific release date as yet, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess will be out later this year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and I really can’t wait to check it out. The game will also be released on Game Pass.
