Latest Samsung Galaxy S25+ Leak Details Controversial Upgrade

With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S25 family happening early in 2025, excitement is building in the community over many design cues and specifications leaking out. However, one detail this week will leave many disappointed… Samsung is still considering the Eynos 2500 as the chipset for some of the new Galaxy handsets.

The Samsung Galaxy S25+ Story

Following an earlier appearance of a Galaxy S25+ running an Exynos 2500 chipset in Geekbench, this week saw another appearance on the online benchmarking service of an Exynos handset, pointing towards continued testing by Samsung. It’s worth noting that the actual performance remains broadly similar to previous benchmarks.

At this point in the development cycle, the focus will be on optimising the code, for example, to ensure strong battery life, manage excess heat created inside the handset, and to work on cellular and local connectivity issues. If that’s the case, maintaining a solid benchmarking score with a more efficient device will be welcome.

A Powerful Samsung Galaxy S25+ Choice

Yet the benchmarks of Samsung’s Exynos 2500 chipset in the Galaxy S25+ illustrate one performance issue. Compared to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset—widely believed to be the alternative—Samsung’s chip is significantly weaker, with a deficit of between 20 and 40 percent in single-core and multi-core benchmarking.

It’s unlikely that consumers will have a choice in which model they can buy. In previous years, each region’s handsets shipped with either Exynos or Qualcomm, with no option for consumers to make their preference known. There’s no sign that this policy will change.

Not Every Samsung Galaxy S25+ Will Be The Same

Many in the community were hopeful that leaks over the summer that Samsung would opt for Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chipset in every handset. That would have offered identical performance around the world. The handsets are not yet launched so Samsung has not made its final decision public, but the ongoing benchmarks suggest the older split-chip policy remains.

Samsung is expected to debut the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ and S25 Ultra early in 2025 at its next Galaxy Unwrapped event, where the next generation of Galaxy AI should also debut.
