In a new interview with Noah Centineo, he talks briefly about the upcoming live-action Gundam movie and says that it will be set in the Universal Century timeline.
Since the set leaks showed various Federation uniforms and vehicles, and the slightly cringeworthy “Semper Terra”, many fans have assumed that this new live-action Gundam movie would be set in the Universal Century.
Now, according to Noah Centineo, who is one of the main stars in the movie, the rumor has effectively been confirmed (shown below).
If you’re new to Gundam and have no clue what any of this means. The Universal Century, or UC, timeline is the main timeline that the original Mobile Suit Gundam was set in.
There are multiple Gundam works that continue in this timeline, including the recent Gundam Hathaway movies, to name but a few.
Whereas anime such as Gundam Wing or the Witch from Mercury are set in their own separate alternate timelines.
In short, the Universal Century timeline is the main and classic timeline for Gundam, and having this live-action movie be a part of it is definitely interesting.
Noah Centineo also confirms the fact that the story is indeed “Romeo and Juliet in space”, which is similar to both Gundam 0080 and 08th MS Team in terms of structure.
Now, the real question is whether this new movie is set during the One Year War, or much later in the timeline, much like the rather unfortunate G-Saviour.
In any case, this new live-action Gundam movie has wrapped pretty recently, so it’s only a matter of time until it’s out on Netflix. Here’s hoping it won’t be terrible.
