The rather impressive looking Mecha Break is now finally available to play for everyone as part of an open beta on Steam.
Since its announcement last year, Mecha Break has continued to be an intriguing new title. Developed by Amazing Seasun Games, a Chinese games studio, with various Japanese mecha designers onboard, the game has seemingly turned out alright.
With various closed betas over the course of this year, the game is now finally available as an open beta on Steam and it seems to be rather good.
I’ve been getting a lot of questions online about Mecha Break, as people want my mecha nerd verdict. Honestly, I’m holding off on my verdict until the game is official released, but from what I have seen it does look promising.
I get real Starwing Paradox and Axis Arena vibes from Mecha Break and all of that is a good thing. However, I do feel that this is a game that will find its place more in the Asian market than in the West.
This is not to say the game isn’t good, but it’s more the styling of the mecha. Taking cues from the athleticized Metal Build toys, the mecha look very Chinese. This is by no means a criticism, but I feel the reach of that kind of mecha styling is very specific to Asia.
Not to mention the character designs and character creation setup seem to be very much to create your own personal waifu. Again, I have no personal problem with that, but it’s something that will gain more traction in Asia than elsewhere.
Thus far though, Mecha Break is pulling in players across the board and is definitely a title to keep an eye on. Whether it will be able to keep the momentum up is unclear at this point, as we still don’t know how the monetization in the game will be handled and whether the mecha styling will stick with Western audiences.
In any case, Mecha Break is now finally available to play on open beta via Steam.
