Millions Of Samsung Galaxy Phones Are In Line For A Free Upgrade

Samsung is preparing to release its Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the highly anticipated Wide Fold, next month. Both will be powered by One UI 9, which the Korean company has been testing with beta users ahead of the launch. That update is now being internally tested for roll out on the Galaxy S25 series, the Galaxy A57, and the Galaxy A17.

Samsung Brings One UI 9 Beta To More Galaxy Phones

The Galaxy S25 series is next in line for the One UI 9 beta, according to internal firmware that has surfaced on Samsung’s servers spotted by update tracker Tarun Vats on X.

At the same time, Samsung has begun testing One UI 9 builds for the Galaxy A57 and Galaxy A17, showing that the update is already in development well beyond flagship devices. Vats pointed out that Samsung’s team “has been very active lately, with both stable rollouts and One UI 9 development moving forward at the same time.”

That last part matters. Samsung is not waiting for the S25 beta to wrap before testing on mid-range and budget hardware. In short, the Korean company is moving quickly before the official launch next month.

How quickly? Samsung only launched the One UI 9 beta for the Galaxy S26 series on May 13. Beta 2 followed roughly two weeks later, while beta 3 is expected next week. It’s also worth noting that Samsung just finished its global rollout of One UI 8.5, which finally hit some of the cheapest phones in its roster.

The stable version of One UI 9 is expected to arrive first on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 when they launch at Galaxy Unpacked in July, before rolling out to the Galaxy S26 series and expanding to other devices the second half of 2026.

What’s Included In One UI 9?

Samsung Notes gains decorative tapes and a wider variety of pen line styles, and the Contacts app now connects directly to Creative Studio for personalised profile cards without switching between apps.

Elsewhere, the Quick Panel has been redesigned to give users independent control over brightness, sound, and the media player. Each is separately adjustable with more sizing options. Accessibility improvements include an adjustable Mouse Key speed, a combined TalkBack package merging Google and Samsung’s previously separate tools, and a new Text Spotlight feature that displays selected text in a floating window for easier reading. On security, One UI 9 now warns users when high-risk apps are detected, then blocking execution and installation.

That’s obviously not everything, Samsung said its May One UI 9 announcement that the “full experience” will come when the OS launches in July. The biggest part of that, of course, will be Samsung’s new AI tools.

Namely Gemini Intelligence, which Google demoed at I/O last month. The new agentic experience, that acts autonomously on the user’s behalf, is expected to be restricted to the most recent Samsung and Google phones. Check out the video of that in action below.
