Riot Games has revealed Waylay, the newest Valorant agent, along with her abilities, which include a double dash that already looks like the strongest movement ability in the game.
Waylay is the 28th agent in Valorant, following on from Tejo who launched just a few weeks ago, and is a little more basic than many of the more recent agents we have seen. However, that is likely due to the incredible movement potential she has thanks to one of her abilities.
You can see a full run down of all of Waylay’s abilities below, but there is one that is clearly going to be the key skill when it comes to playing her. It’s called Light Speed and allows Waylay to perform a massive double dash, with the first one capable of also sending you into the air as well as forward. From the initial videos we have seen it’s incredibly quick, seemingly faster than Jett’s dash, and can cover a massive amount of space very quickly, which has already got my mind racing with potential.
The rest of her abilities are all fairly standard, with a mix of control and movement options. She’s a duelist, and designed to fill a similar role to Jett and Raze with some big movement options as well as some firepower and utility. However, that utility also introduces a new effect, hindering, which slows almost everything you can think of, including fire rate, recoil recovery, equip time, reload speed, movement speed and jump speed.
“We haven’t had a ‘space taking duelist’ since Valorant’s launch,” said June Cuervo, Game Designer on Valorant. “This subclass of duelist that only Jett and Raze occupy has been an essential part of team compositions at all levels of play, and we wanted to add something fresh to this gameplay space. When designing Waylay’s dash I wanted to capture the creativity of Raze’s satchel movement and the speed of Jett’s dash. Waylay’s tool for creating safety for herself, Refract, allows her to take risks and play off of her teammates’ utility with confidence after dashing. These two things together allow Waylay to act as your entry duelist while not throwing away her life.”
Waylay will launch on March 5, alongside the latest Valorant patch, which will also include some new skins from the Cyrax collection that include options for the Vandal, Ghost, Guardian, Stinger and melee weapons.
Waylay Abilities
Refract
Instantly create a beacon of light on the floor. Reactivate to speed back to your beacon as a mote of pure light. You are invulnerable as you travel.
Light Speed
Equip to prepare for a burst of speed. Fire to dash forward twice. Alt fire to dash once. Only your first dash can send you upward.
Saturate
Instantly throw a cluster of light that explodes upon contact with the ground, hindering nearby players with a powerful movement and weapon slow.
Convergent Paths
Equip to focus your prismatic power. Fire to create an afterimage of yourself that projects a beam of light in Valorant. After a brief delay, you gain a powerful speed boost and the beam expands, hindering other players in the area.
