NYT ‘Connections’ Hints And Answers For Monday, March 18

Looking for Sunday’s Connections hints and answers? You can find them here:

Hey, everyone! Welcome to the start of a new week. I hope you’re energized and ready to make the most of it. I haven’t quite shaken the cold that pestered me all weekend, but at least I was able to rest a ton. Hopefully, that’ll stand me in good stead for a productive week.

Anyway, today’s NYT Connections hints and answers are coming right up.

How To Play Connections

In Connections, you’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like horror movie franchises, a type of verb or rappers.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is typically the hardest one to deduce. The purple group often involves wordplay, so bear that in mind.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers.

What Are Today’s Connections Hints?

Scroll slowly! Just after the hints for each of today’s Connections groups, I’ll reveal what the groups are without immediately telling you which words go into them.

Today’s 16 words are:

  • SUNFLOWER
  • SOLITAIRE
  • STAGE
  • SNAIL
  • CYCLE
  • CYCLONE
  • CYCLOPS
  • CYGNUS
  • UNICYCLE
  • ORION
  • ROUND
  • GALAXY
  • PEGASUS
  • PHASE
  • MONOLOGUE
  • GEMINI

And the hints for today’s groups are:

  1. Yellow group — all parts of the plan
  2. Green group — when the stars align
  3. Blue group — swirls in the wild
  4. Purple group — linked by a word that both U2 and Metallica have used as a song title

What Are Today’s Connections Groups?

Need some extra help?

Be warned: we’re starting to get into spoiler territory.

Today’s groups are…

  • Yellow group — segment of a process
  • Green group — constellations
  • Blue group — spirals in nature
  • Purple group — associated with “one”

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are…

  • Yellow group — segment of a process (CYCLE, PHASE, ROUND, STAGE)
  • Green group — constellations (CYGNUS, GEMINI, ORION, PEGASUS)
  • Blue group — spirals in nature (CYCLONE, GALAXY, SNAIL, SUNFLOWER)
  • Purple group — associated with “one” (CYCLOPS, MONOLOGUE, SOLITAIRE, UNICYCLE)

My overall winning streak is up to double figures after three straight perfect games.

I actually got the purple words first today. “One” sprang to mind when I saw CYCLOPS and UNICYCLE, and I found the other two words quickly. The yellows were next and easy enough to spot.

I had to mull over the last two groups for a minute. I had an inkling about the greens, but my astronomy knowledge is sadly lacking, so I wouldn’t have known all four constellations right off the bat. It was then that I considered the shape of the Milky Way and the shell of a SNAIL. I didn’t actually know that there’s a spiral on a SUNFLOWER, but that was unlikely to be the name of a constellation anyway. So, I got the blues then the greens for the win.

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog for hints and the solution for Tuesday’s game if you need them.

P.S. I’m not going to give you a song recommendation today. Instead, I’d like to point you to an astonishing series on YouTube in which AntsCanada built a cloud rainforest terrarium in a giant tank in their home. It’s fascinating to see the ecosystem evolve as different types of animals are introduced. The series is shot as well as many nature documentaries. Well worth checking out.
