NYT Connections Hints And Answers: Tuesday, July 7

Not the Connections game you’re looking for? Here are the hints and solution for Monday’s game and an explanation of the answers.

If you want to hang out with a lovely bunch of folks and chat about NYT Connections, other daily puzzle games and even the World Cup, join our Discord community!

Hey there, Connectors! I hope your week is off to a great start!

I had a pretty decent weekend overall, despite Canada being eliminated from the men’s World Cup. My partner and her little one came over on Sunday so we could go for a swim in my building’s pool. I hadn’t seen the kiddo in a while and it was great to spend some time with her.

I was finally able to tell her that, for her birthday present, we’re taking her to an Ariana Grande concert. She didn’t stop talking about how exited she was. I’m excited for the show too.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Tuesday, July 7 are coming right up. Let’s get rolling!

How To Play Connections

Connections is a free daily New York Times game that challenges you to arrange a grid of 16 words, phrases or symbols into four groups. The categories can involve anything from simple synonyms and cultural references to words that start with homonyms for birds.

Play Puzzles & Games on Forbes

There’s only one correct answer. Connections often features red herrings and other tricks like wordplay. You can make three mistakes, but a fourth spells game over and the end of your current streak!

The categories are color coded. Yellow is supposed to be the easiest to figure out, followed by green, blue and then purple. But it’s all relative as Connections tests your knowledge and deductive reasoning skills.

You can track your stats over time and earn badges for achievements like lengthy streaks or achieving a reverse rainbow. This involves submitting the purple category first, followed by blue, green and yellow. I’m here to help players figure out which is which.

You can play Connections on the NYT website or NYT Games app. NYT subscribers can access the full archive of more than 1,100 games of Connections. Each day’s game goes live at midnight local time.

Today’s NYT Connections Word List

Scroll slowly!

After today’s Connections word list, I’ll give you a hint for each category. After that, I’ll reveal one word that goes into each group. Then I’ll reveal the categories, followed by the full answers.

Got it? Cool.

Today’s 16 words are…

  • PLOT
  • DISCOUNT
  • JOCK
  • COLBERT
  • LETTERMAN
  • FRENCH
  • LEMON
  • KITCHEN
  • BERNIE
  • HALL
  • OLIVER
  • TEAM CAPTAIN
  • STUDY
  • SAN ANSELMO
  • ALL-AMERICAN
  • CONSERVATORY

A Hint For Today’s Connections Groups

The hints for today’s Connections categories are:

  • 🟨 Yellow group — where Mrs. White and Professor Plum often roam
  • 🟩 Green group — varsity is often the goal
  • 🟦 Blue group — c’mon, let’s _____ again, like we did last summer
  • 🟪 Purple group — if you can tell me how to get, how to get to the final destination, I’m sure there’ll be sunny days

One Answer For Each Connections Group

Be warned: we’re starting to get into spoiler territory.

Let’s take a look at one answer for each group.

Here we go…

  • 🟨 Yellow group — KITCHEN
  • 🟩 Green group — JOCK
  • 🟦 Blue group — OLIVER
  • 🟪 Purple group — BERNIE

Today’s Connections Categories

Today’s Connections groups are…

  • 🟨 Yellow group — rooms in Clue
  • 🟩 Green group — student-athlete designations
  • 🟦 Blue group — ____ twist
  • 🟪 Purple group — ending in Sesame Street characters

What Is The Answer For Connections Today?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your last chance to look away.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are…

  • 🟨 Yellow group — rooms in Clue (CONSERVATORY, HALL, KITCHEN, STUDY)
  • 🟩 Green group — student-athlete designations (ALL-AMERICAN, JOCK, LETTERMAN, TEAM CAPTAIN)
  • 🟦 Blue group — ____ twist (FRENCH, LEMON, OLIVER, PLOT)
  • 🟪 Purple group — ending in Sesame Street characters (BERNIE, COLBERT, DISCOUNT, SAN ANSELMO)

I clocked the late-night hosts quickly, but TEAM CAPTAIN gave me pause. I vaguely remembered that relates to LETTERMAN in high school/college sports, so I went down that route instead to get the greens.

With the late-night hosts off the table as a clear red herring, I couldn’t see what else COLBERT would naturally fit with. I suspected there might be some wordplay afoot, so looked at its component parts. “Bert” stood out and as I looked around the grid, I smiled as I realized what the purples had to be.

I spotted the rooms of the house/Clue locations next, but figured they had to be the yellows. So I submitted what I suspected to be the blues first. I didn’t clock that category, so I only got those by default. I almost physically facepalmed when I saw the category pop up.

In any case, I’ve bumped my streak up to 492 wins in a row.

How did you get on this time? Here’s my grid:

🟩🟩🟩🟩
🟪🟪🟪🟪
🟦🟦🟦🟦
🟨🟨🟨🟨

Want to know more about how everything fits together? Let’s explore today’s game in more depth in my NYT Connections Answers Explained column right here:

Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the answer for tomorrow’s game of Connections if you need them.

P.S. I’m gonna show some love to a few bands from my neck of the woods over the next few days. I need to check out more up-and-coming local artists, and I think you should too.

This started because I heard a snippet of “Auto Hysterics” from Montreal punk/rock & roll band Taxi Girls on Instagram, then rushed to listed to the full song. The band’s debut album, Static, just dropped and I’ll have to listen to it soon since this song is real good:

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!

Please follow my blog for more NYT Connections hints and help with other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. I’d really appreciate that as it helps me out. If you share this column with others who play Connections, that would be lovely too. You can also read my weekend editions of this column and more of my writing at my newsletter, Pastimes.
