Another day, another dollar. We’re halfway through the week and going strong. I’m still sore from all the exercise I’ve been getting, which is the only way to balance all the sitting I do at a desk, type-type-typing away with my terrible posture.
Today’s Strands grid hits a little close to home in that regard. Let’s go take a crack at it!
How To Play Strands
The New York Times’ Strands puzzle is a play on the classic word search. It’s in beta for now, which means it’ll only stick around if enough people play it every day. Keep playing, in other words. It’s our collective mission to keep this game alive and get it on the app!
There’s a new game of Strands to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight grid of letters. The aim is to find a group of words that have something in common, and you’ll get a clue as to what that theme is. When you find a theme word, it will remain highlighted in blue.
You’ll also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram links two opposite sides of the board. While the theme words will not be a proper name, the spangram can be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.

Today’s Strands Breakdown
This one stumped me for a bit. The first word I came up with was MOUSE and I suppose my Disney-addled brain immediately thought of Cinderella and her little helpers, Jaq and Gus. It wasn’t until I finally found MONITOR that I figured out how off-base I was. Thankfully, this made it pretty easy to spot the spangram, DESKTOP, and from there PRINTER was pretty obvious.
The final three were still tricky, which is a nice change of pace from all the easy STRANDS we’ve had lately. I spotted WEB and then finally turned that into WEBCAM. SPEAKERS and KEYBOARD were pretty simple after that.
