Orico’s MiniMate Is An SSD Made For Apple’s New Mac Mini M4

If you’ve been tempted into buying one of Apple’s new and beautiful Mac mini M4 computers, this new gadget from data storage specialist Orico is sure to appeal, especially as Apple charges a small fortune for onboard SSD storage beyond the base specification.

The Orico MiniMate M4PRO is an external SSD that’s been designed exclusively for the new Mac mini 2024. It’s an easy way to add fast SSD storage to Apple’s new baby and is an ideal device for graphic designers, video editors, content creators or anyone else who produces a lot of data.

The Orico MiniMate is available in capacities ranging from 512GB to 8TB at prices which start from $139.99 and go up to $999.99 for the maximum 8TB model. This means you can buy a base model Mac mini for a great price and then scale up the SSD storage with a MiniMate when you need more space to overcome the capacity limitations of the Mac mini 2004.

Orico claims its MiniMate will offer speeds up to 40Gbps by attaching to one of the Mac mini’s Thunderbolt/USB4 ports. However, that speed will depend on the type of NVMe SSD used which will vary with size. Orico will be offering a wide choice of capacities ranging from 512GB to a maximum of 8TB. The extra storage space is ideal for storing photographs, video footage, music files and more, plus the data is accessed in much the same way as the mini’s onboard SSD and can be mounted permanently on the macOS desktop.

With a size and design that matches the new Mac mini’s aesthetics perfectly, the Orico MiniMate fits snuggly on top of the Mac mini 2004 for a neat and harmonious look which is much more elegant than a thumb drive or external SSD. The device also features thermal architecture that works with the Mac mini 2004 using air ducts and a metal casing that maximizes heat dissipation from the SSD and its controller.

Pricing & Availability: Orico says the MiniMate will ship in all capacities from December 13 and is currently available as a 1TB unit priced at $199.99 / £157.98 / €190.45. Prices for other capacities range from $139.99 for the entry-level 512GB version, up to $999.99 for the maximum capacity 8TB model.

Tech Specs:

  • Model: MiniMate M4PRO.
  • Material: Aluminum alloy.
  • Color: Silver.
  • Dimensions: 127 x 127 x 25mm.
  • Capacities: 512GB/1TB/2TB/4TB/8TB.
