A comprehensive new report reveals that Google will offer a free AI subscription worth $239.88 with new Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold smartphones.
Updated July 30 with details of a leaked Gemini update that reinforces the increasing importance of Google’s AI models in Pixel devices.
This latest news, unearthed by well-known insider OnLeaks and reported on by 91mobiles.com, builds on previously leaked information, providing unofficial confirmation that the offer could be worth even more than previously thought.
The report includes a series of official-looking Pixel 9 Pro promotional materials, revealing that all three “Pro” Pixel 9 models will include a one-year subscription to Google One AI Premium at no extra cost. A previous leak revealed that Google would bundle twelve months of Gemini Advanced with each purchase, but not that it would come as part of a complete Google One AI Premium bundle.
Each Google One AI Premium subscription provides 2TB of cloud storage and Google’s premium Gemini Advanced AI features. Gemini Advanced enables Google’s most powerful Gemini 1.5 Pro model and headline features, such as Gemini in Gmail and Docs. Google One AI Premium is billed at $19.99 monthly, amounting to a total value of $239.88 over the year.
Full terms and conditions for the Gemini Advanced offer are not yet available, but they should appear at this link eventually (it was not live at the time of writing).
Not Everyone Will Be Able To Redeem The Offer
Unfortunately, due to an ongoing issue with the way Google One subscriptions are structured, customers subscribed to the most expensive tiers of 5TB and higher won’t be able to take advantage of the offer without setting up a new account, as Google One AI Premium is currently only offered at the 2TB level. However, Google appears to be considering introducing at least one new Google One subscription plan, so this may change soon.
To use Gemini Advanced, you must also be at least 18 years old, be able to use the software in English, and reside in one of the countries where Google One AI Premium is supported.
What About The Standard Pixel 9?
While this most recent report doesn’t mention the standard Pixel 9, a previous report suggests that the entry-level Pixel 9 model might receive a similar subscription bundle lasting six months rather than the whole year.
Gemini Advanced To Become Even More Useful For Pixel 9 Pro
July 30 Update
A recent report from Android Authority reveals that Google is testing six new Gemini extensions that allow Gemini to connect to other apps and services. Thanks to their bundled Gemini Advanced subscriptions, Pixel 9 Pro users will, therefore, gain the best experience from these extensions.
Three of these six new extensions, Google Calendar, Keep and Tasks, were announced at Google I/O 2024, but the remaining three appear to be entirely new. The newly discovered extensions include abilities currently available only to Google Assistant, moving Gemini three steps closer to being able to replace Google Assistant entirely.
The unannounced extensions are:
Google Home—Gemini will be able to view and control smart home devices.
Phone—Gemini will gain unspecified phone-based abilities such as placing calls.
Utilities—Gemini will be able to perform tasks such as taking photos, launching apps and adjusting volume levels directly without using the system settings app.
There’s no word on when these new extensions might roll out to users, but it would come as no surprise if they were to arrive with the launch of the Pixel 9 range on August 13. Extensions work with standard Gemini, but upgrading to Gemini Advanced will allow users to use them to the fullest, thanks to gaining access to Google’s most powerful Gemini 1.5 Pro model reserved for the premium subscription.
Offering a year of Gemini Advanced with each new Pixel 9 Pro ensures Google’s latest smartphones showcase the best of Gemini’s capabilities. It will also push customers towards upgrading their Pixel handsets more frequently, assuming Google continues to offer similar incentives with future Pixels.
