Amazon has officially taken the covers off its most ambitious Echo lineup yet, introducing four new devices which have clearly been built with its AI-supercharged Alexa+ digital assistant in mind.
Two sleek new Echo Show smart displays look to be the pick of the new Echo bunch, and – no offence to the older models that have come before – finally look like they were designed to earn a permanent spot in your living room, not just your kitchen counter.
The lineup also includes a beefed-up (and double-priced) Echo Dot Max and a redesigned Echo Studio but, in my opinion, it’s the 4th-gen Show 8 and the new Show 11 that set the tone for this much-needed hardware refresh.
They’re both slimmer, sharper, and far more polished than the slightly clunky Show models that have come before, featuring modern floating-screen designs.
They also pack new stereo speaker systems, and upgraded 13-megapixel cameras, all powered by Amazon’s custom silicon and sensor suite to unlock Alexa+’s more proactive, personalized features.
The Show 8 and Show 11 feature brighter, sharper high-density LCD panels with in-cell touch technology, thinner bezels, and that floating design that gives the displays a more refined, tablet-like look; although I’m told they don’t actually swivel – you’ll need an accessory if you want to do that.
The 13MP cameras not only handle video calls but also tie into Alexa+’s personalization features, adjusting what’s shown on screen depending on who’s in front of the device. Amazon’s new UI builds on this with updated smart home dashboards, color-coded family calendars, and streamlined media controls.
All four new Echo devices are powered by Amazon’s latest custom processors, the AZ3 and AZ3 Pro.
These chips bring serious upgrades in on-device AI performance, from sharper voice pickup to support for more advanced language and vision models.
The Echo Dot Max is the first to run on the AZ3, while the Show 8, Show 11, and Studio step up to the AZ3 Pro for faster, more capable interactions.
Layered on top is Amazon’s new Omnisense sensor fusion system, which combines inputs from cameras, audio, radar, and even Wi-Fi signals.
The idea is to make Alexa+ more aware of what’s happening at home so it can do things like greet you with the right calendar reminders when you walk into the room or nudge you if the back gate has been left open late at night.
The Echo Dot Max is Amazon’s most advanced small speaker to date. It packs a new two-way speaker system with a woofer and tweeter, nearly tripling the bass compared to the last-gen Dot, all while keeping the same compact footprint.
On the higher end, the new Echo Studio is 40 percent smaller than the original but still delivers spatial audio and Dolby Atmos through its woofer and three full-range drivers.
Both the Dot Max and Studio can be paired with Fire TV sticks to create a full surround setup; something Amazon is pushing hard as a cheaper, plug-and-play alternative to traditional home theater systems.
All of the new Echo lineup double up as pretty comprehensive smart home hubs, supporting Zigbee, Matter, and Thread.
All four new Echo devices are available to pre-order now. The Echo Dot Max ($99.99) and Echo Studio ($219.99) ship October 29, while the Echo Show 8 ($179.99) and Echo Show 11 ($219.99) follow on November 12.
Each comes with Alexa+ Early Access enabled out of the box… Amazon clearly wants this to be the moment Alexa’s next-gen assistant becomes part of daily life.
