Only Murders in the Building continues to be one of Hulu’s biggest and most culturally relevant hits, and now there’s news about season 5 of the show as season 4 spools up. Can you guess what it is?
Yes, that’s right, Only Murders in the Building has been renewed for season 5, which took place a week or so after the fourth season premiered. It will again be ten episodes long, not cut-down the way we sometimes see.
Only Murders season 4 has a fantastic 95% critic scores and 95% audience score, and overall, a 97% from critics and a 91% from fans. Extremely good.
The show keeps attracting more and more high profile supporting actors, which last season included the it-doesn’t-get-bigger-than-her Meryl Streep. This season, we’ve already seen Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Zack Galifianakis (as themselves) and Kumail Nanjiani is about to have a significant role. Plus, the return of Jane Levy from last year who is the murder in question for season 4, though she’s now hanging around as a ghost. Amy Ryan has also returned briefly so far. It’s a lot.
If you haven’t watched yourself, here’s the official synopsis:
“Three strangers share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one. When a grisly death occurs inside their exclusive Upper West Side apartment building, the trio suspects murder and employs their precise knowledge of true crime to investigate the truth. Perhaps even more explosive are the lies they tell one another. Soon, the endangered trio comes to realize a killer might be living among them as they race to decipher the mounting clues before it’s too late.”
The series has resulted in loads of Emmy nominations, including ones for its stars Steve Martin, Maritn Short and Selena Gomez. It has 49 nominations in total, though only four wins in an increasingly competitive TV market. Last Emmys alone it has 21 nominations.
There are no indications that Only Murders in the Building has an endpoint in sight. It seems like a show that could go on indefinitely, however improbably it may be that murders keep happening in the building and the murderers are in there too. But the concept is meant to be pretty silly, so it always works. Or at least it has for four seasons now.
The show is currently airing weekly on Hulu and season 4 is going to run through the end of October.
