StarTech Launches Driverless Dock With Support For Three Displays And USB4 Speeds

Computer accessory brand StarTech.com has a wonderful mission statement: “Making Hard-To-Find Easy.” And it’s true! If you’re in the IT business and you are always wondering where to get those gizmos, gadgets and gewgaws for work, then StarTech.com is often as good a place as any to start the hunt.

The latest product from this Aladdin’s cave of electronic gadgetry is the new USB4 Triple-Monitor Docking Station — or the 150N-USB4DOCK-TRIPLE — to give it StartTech.com’s snappy SKU name.

This is a USB4 dock with support for up to three external displays running at 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 60Hz. The dock also offers plenty of 10Gbps USB ports, a headset jack, although no Thunderbolt. This is a strictly USB affair.

Easy IT Deployment

Described as the brand’s “most versatile docking station yet,” the new USB4 Triple-Monitor Docking Station has been designed for demanding IT deployments when powering high-performance workspaces. StarTech.com says its dock sets a new benchmark thanks to more USB ports, more 10Gbps USB bandwidth, plus 2.5GbE networking without the need to install any drivers. This is strictly plug-and-play.

Designed for modern IT scalability, the new dock can support three simultaneous 4K 60Hz displays without drivers. It does this by tapping into the laptop’s native GPU for high-performance video and all without the need for DisplayLink drivers.

With its driverless deployment across Windows and ChromeOS environments, there’s no need to install any software and that means there’s no configuration overhead, so IT teams to scale the device across hybrid offices, hot-desking setups and mass device rollouts. Incidentally, Mac users can use the dock but don’t get the driverless triple display support. That’s a feature of macOS and not a bug, apparently.

Up To Three External Displays

The dock can connect up to three external monitors via HDMI and DisplayPort, all driven by the laptop’s GPU for maximum performance. There’s native support for USB4 Windows and USB4 ChromeOS. In addition, the dock also has 2.5Gbps Ethernet for high-speed networking involving demanding workloads and fast data transfers.

In addition to the video and Ethernet features, the new dock has six USB ports consisting of four 10Gbps USB-A, one 10Gbps USB-C, plus a single 5Gbps USB-C for flexible connection of a wide range of peripherals.

While hot desking may improve the efficient use of precious office space in these times of hybrid working, it often comes with the risk of theft when employees decide that dock would be perfect for their home office setup. To counter this, StarTech has included mounting and security options that are compatible with the company’s range of mounting brackets and laptop locks. The new dock works with StarTech’s performance and security-enhancing tools, which include access to StarTech’s exclusive Connectivity Tools software suite

“Whether you’re refreshing a fleet of USB4 laptops or extending the life of existing USB devices, the USB4 Triple Dock is purpose-built for the modern IT landscape,” says John Mardinly, manager of product performance at StarTech.com. “This docking station is driverless, and futureproof ready for USB4 Windows laptop environments. It drives up to three monitors while utilizing the laptop’s GPU for high-performance monitor connectivity.”

Pricing and Availability:

The new USB4 Triple-Monitor Docking Station from StarTech.com is priced at $248.99 and is available through global IT resellers and distributors including CDW, Amazon, Ingram Micro, TD SYNNEX and D&H. A list of where to buy can be found here.
