The 3 Best Movies To Watch On Netflix This Week (#2 Is Leaving Soon)

The biggest Netflix movie of the year was a bit of a surprise. KPop Demon Hunters became the “most watched original animated film of all time” on Netflix in July, according to the streamer. The film passed up 2021’s Red Notice in August to become the streamer’s most-watched original film ever. It’s still #3 on the Netflix Top 10 Movies chart. In second place is Keira Knightley’s yacht-thriller, The Woman In Cabin 10. Unlike Kpop Demon Hunters, that film received a tepid response from critics and audiences alike, but that hasn’t stopped it from taking the top spot since its release.

A new film has now been topped by a brand new arrival, an award-winning documentary that’s more chilling than most horror movies. The new documentary is at the top of the Netflix movies list. It’s as good a place to start this what-to-watch list as any. Here are three movies to check out on Netflix this week.

#1 – The Perfect Neighbor (2025) – 100% on Rotten Tomatoes

This chilling documentary from award-winning director and producer Geeta Gandbhir, The Perfect Neighbor is told almost entirely from bodycam and doorbell cam footage. The documentary follows the events leading up to, and the aftermath of, the killing of Ajike “AJ” Shantrell by her neighbor, Susan Lorincz. The film shows the disputes that led to the shooting, including the numerous calls Lorincz made to the police complaining about children playing outside in the neighborhood.

The Perfect Neighbor won the Directing Award for US Documentary at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival where it first premiered. Netflix acquired the rights to the documentary in March for $5 million. The film saw a limited theatrical release on October 10 before releasing on Netflix on October 17. It’s heavy stuff, as timely as it is tragic and terrifying, but I promise we’re going to get a bit more lighthearted from here.

#2 – The Gentlemen (2019) – 76% on Rotten Tomatoes

Guy Ritchie has made many wildly entertaining films over the years, from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels to Snatch. The Gentlemen fits nicely in Ritchie’s pantheon of outlandish British crime films. A story of drug dealers, aristocrats and wealthy businessmen is filled with typical Ritchie wit and violence, and a star-studded cast including Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Jeremy Strong, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant, Eddie Marsan, Tom Wu, Jason Wong, Geraldine Somerville and countless others.

The Gentlemen was adapted into a 2024 Netflix Original series starring Theo James and Giancarlo Esposito which was incredibly fun. The movie, however, is not a Netflix Original and is actually leaving Netflix on October 31. You don’t have much longer to watch this one (or rewatch it) so act soon!

#3 – Nimona (2023) – 92% on Rotten Tomatoes

So far on this list we have a terrifying documentary about a horrific crime and a much sillier and less distressing crime dramedy. To round things out, we’ll end things with a much more family-friendly offering. Nimona, from co-directors Nick Bruno and Troy Quane, is based on the 2015 graphic novel by ND Stevenson.

The story follows Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz) a shape-shifting teenager in a Medieval-futuristic kingdom who teams up with disgraced knight Ballister Boldheart (Riz Ahmed) as the sidekick he never asked for. The pair go to work trying to clear Ballister’s name for a crime he didn’t commit, as dark truths about the kingdom and Nimona come to light. The animation is absolutely beautiful, and the story has a ton of heart. Grownups will find plenty to love about Nimona, so be sure to watch it with your kids (or without them).

The theme of today’s guide, dearest readers, is crime. You thought “C” was for cookie? No, it’s for crime. And crime doesn’t pay, though it certainly makes for excellent movies across multiple genres.
