To minimize the risk of falling victim to scams or identity theft, it’s important to regularly update passwords, use multi-factor authentication, and be cautious when sharing personal information. But these are temporary fixes that leave too much responsibility on users. It’s time for a new standard.
Technology is all around us, and it’s important that social platforms, marketplaces and review sites adapt to tools like continuously verified checkmarks that signify more than just symbols: they instill trust in their users and give them the confidence that, while not fully understanding their identity, they know they’re truthful and most importantly – verified. This verification is persistent, even as users change phones or phone numbers.
Beyond the basics like having a simple but effective system to protect communications, and taking advantage of all secure digital identity services offered by the brands they work with, consumers should demand, and speculate more about this level of trust and security from the platforms they use.
