The One Thing Xbox Series X Has Been Missing All Along: Luscious Locks

The One Thing Xbox Series X Has Been Missing All Along: Luscious Locks

I was just writing about how I’d almost missed the news regarding PlayStation’s limited edition Concord controller due to the onslaught of other shiny hardware announcements. Well, I’ve just stumbled across yet another reveal which came very close to slipping under my finely calibrated gaming radar, and the update isn’t exactly, uh, shiny? Furry it’s the more apt descriptor. Yeah. Furry.

To celebrate the imminent release of its bloody, irreverent, hack-and-slash game Gori: Cuddly Carnage (starring not-Xbox’s-Blinx), indie games publisher Wired Productions has teamed up with outlet TrueAchievements to give confused and excited people a chance to win an Xbox Series X covered in what can only be described as a faux pelt.

This absolutely calls to mind that equally strange contest held by Microsoft some years back in which these same confused and excited people could possibly win a limited edition Xbox Series S alongside a pair of blue and red furry Sonic and Knuckles Xbox controllers. Honestly, did anyone ever win that contest? Reddit seems to think so. Honestly, good for them. I hope they brush those controllers every day. It’s what they need. It’s what they deserve.

While I do appreciate how bizarre the whole ordeal is, I’m guessing this is basically a Velcro or magnetic console wrap with an ordinary Xbox Series X underneath. Sure, it’s probably a custom fit wrap, but a wrap, nonetheless, which in my mind makes this less exciting than a custom-painted or printed shell. I could be wrong, though. Perhaps this is a special Xbox Series X that has been illegally engineered in a secret underground biolab to grow actual, organic animal fur. I mean, fingers crossed.

I was actually recently made aware of Gori: Cuddly Carnage, and I dig how offbeat it seems. There are two rather obscure references that come to mind when viewing the early footage: An old original Xbox title called Raze’s Hell (2005) and a weird piece of software called Naughty Bear (2010) from 505 Games. Does anyone else remember these? Angry Demon Studios’ upcoming release has that same cute-but-deadly energy, and holy cow, does Gori look like our main cat boy from Blinx: The Time Sweeper. There’s even a pair of goggles, man. The resemblance is uncanny.

Regardless, Gori: Cuddly Carnage looks like my kind of off-the-wall insanity (with some possible good, old-fashioned jank thrown in for kicks and giggles) and I’ll be checking it out when it hits practically every gaming platform on August 29 for a reasonable $20ish. And good luck to anyone trying to score that furry Xbox Series X. If you win, just don’t try to give it a bath, and let me know if it is indeed alive.
