There are a number of faces you’re going to see over and over again across some of the biggest movies of the year, and it turns out, many of the same faces in the same films as each other.
You just saw all three of them in The Odyssey, but the crossover between Tom Holland, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson projects is something rarely seen in a given year, and certainly not with movies this high-profile. Specifically, at least three of the biggest blockbusters of the year.
The web, no pun intended, is pretty fascinating. To keep track of it all, we have:
- The Drama (April) stars Pattinson and Zendaya as an engaged couple where the bride-to-be reveals a dark secret her fiancée must deal with.
- The Odyssey (July) stars Holland and Pattinson as bitter rivals as Odysseus’s son tries to hold off suitors from pursuing his mother. Zendaya is Athena, frequently appearing to Odysseus.
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July, two weeks later) stars Holland and Zendaya as Spider-Man and MJ, where Spidey had to erase her memories of him, and he’s now trying to figure out a way to restore that relationship.
- Dune Part 3 (December): Stars Pattinson as Scytale, attempting to put an end to the reign of Paul Atreides, which will enlist the help of Zendaya’s Chani, betrayed by Paul.
While not quite as tangled up here, it’s also notable that Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal are both in The Odyssey and Spider-Man, the two being fast friends for ages. And, of course, Holland and Zendaya were recently married in real life after a long relationship that began in the early Spider-Man years.
These are not the actors’ only projects, some being without their acting mates. Zendaya was just nominated for an Emmy for her role as Rue in the long-gestating Euphoria season 3. Robert Pattinson will play predator-catcher Chris Hansen in Primetime, out later this year. He’s also going to be working on The Batman Part II, which is kind of funny, as it is opposite Tom Holland’s Spider-Man with the two playing what may be the two biggest superheroes there are.
Holland does not have any other roles this year besides the ones listed, but his part in The Odyssey was very large, really the second lead, and obviously he is the star of Spider-Man. A lot of these other parts for Zendaya and Pattinson are supporting.
It is obviously not unusual for many of the same actors to work together, but this network of projects? This high profile? With three actors in a single year? I’m not sure we’ve seen anything like it.
