While I understand that Blizzard has a desire to encourage players to buy Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred in order to play its new class, things are…a bit out of hand with Spiritborn. Eventually things will have to change in a scenario where one class is just wildly stronger than all other builds on all other classes right now with only a handful of exceptions.
The answer I am suggesting is definitely not Spiritborn nerfs. Rather, I’d actually like to see some Spiritborn buffs in order to diversify different kinds of builds past Quills and evade, for the most part.
But what seems to have happened is that while Spiritborn was made with the new difficulty curve and endgame in mind, the older classes can’t really keep up despite the fact that yes, there were updates and additions to them at launch.
Sometimes yes, the correct answer is to nerf an outlier like Spiritborn as opposed to buffing all other classes. But in this case, it’s the game itself that has changed top to bottom in terms of how difficulty across the Torment levels works, then you’d probably have to nerf that to some degree instead, and I don’t think that’s a good idea.
I don’t think this is especially urgent. Most people just starting out with Vessel of Hatred this early in the season and this close to expansion launch are going to be satisfied playing it for a good long while. Totally cool. But as the season presses on, and players want to start other classes in the new state of the game, that’s when it would be good to have some buffs so more than a small handful of builds on the other five classes feel competitive.
All this said I really do feel like Diablo 4 is in a great state in the wake of Vessel of Hatred. I have a few gripes with Ancestral drop rates and difficulty gulfs between Torment levels, but I’m certainly still having a lot of fun. But if I want to continue to have a lot of fun on other classes, it is probably going to be time to make sure they’re up to par with the new order of things pretty soon here. For now, I am more than content grinding the hell out of my Spiritborn Quill-shooter, as we’re having a blast.
