Each day’s game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before today’s NYT Connections hints, here’s what you missed on Sunday:
Hey there, Connectors! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I’m happy to be back with you for another weekday run of this column.
As always, I love to get things started on Mondays with a fun, upbeat song to hopefully lift your spirits. If it gets you singing and dancing a bit, even better.
The main thing I’m thinking about right now is Scotland’s fortunes at the World Cup. So, JJ Bull’s “The Very Unofficial Scotland World Cup Song” popped into my life at exactly the right time. I only just learned about this song on Friday. It instantly replaced the tune I previously had in mind for this intro.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t get any of the references in the song or anything at all about football (not soccer), really. This is an absolute banger that sounds like LCD Soundsystem spent quite a bit of time in Glasgow.
It’s bread and circuses, baby. With a bicycle kick:

Before we start, I want to highlight the rad community we have on Discord, where we chat about Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. It’s a lovely group of folks. You’re more than welcome to join us.
Also, my weekend editions of this column are available over on my newsletter, Pastimes. If you enjoy the intros and recommendations in my Connections columns, I publish longer pieces along similar lines on Pastimes as well. I think you’d dig them.

I got the Chinese zodiac animals first. No issue there. They were the only animals on the grid after all.
The yellows were next up, thanks to MOMENTUM and LEGS. I knew LARKSPUR and ANEMONE (thanks, Finding Nemo!) were flowers, and used process of elimination to get the rest of the purples after figuring out the green group.
Nice to start the week with a win. That’s my 470th in a row.

P.S. Charlotte Cardin never misses. Her latest single, “Take Me Back,” is a captivating, sophisticated pop song. I adore that her recent music videos have had lovely hand-drawn animated outros too:
