Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1024 Hints, Clues And Answer For Monday, April 8th

Looking for Sunday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:

It’s the big day! The eclipse is coming! Soon, the moon will blot out the sun, stirring the great, dark magics of earth and sky and space. This cosmic alignment is quite the occasion. I have several friends traveling great distances so they can get the best view—hopefully the cloudy forecast doesn’t eclipse the eclipse.

Monday is a fitting day for an eclipse. After all, it’s the moon’s day and the moon is doing all the work as it passes directly between the earth and the sun; heavenly bodies confusing day and night, however briefly.

Alright, let’s Wordle.

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Best in show.

The Clue: Today’s Wordle has a double letter.

Okay, spoilers below!

.

The Answer:

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to see how I did. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

Can you solve today’s phrase?

It’s possible that my thoughts have, of late, wandered down darker hallways than usual. Why would such a heavy word pop into my mind, the very thing I could of when coming up with my opening guess? Lucky for me, grief was pretty great, leaving me with just 14 words to choose from.

Also, if you notice, the gray boxes now spell GIF. From here, I came up with a bunch of possible words that could be the answer, though not the 14 Wordle Bot informed me were left when I checked afterwards. I did come up with creep, creek, cruel, breed, dryer, truer and some others and then I tried to think how to combine a bunch of these to rule out as many words as possible.

Cloud seemed like the best choice. I could only think of one word: breed, and once again my luck carried me to victory. It wasn’t until I checked the Wordle Bot score that I learned I had 4 words to choose from: breed, armed, treed and erred. Yeah, I didn’t think about any of those. I just got lucky!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 1 point for guessing in three and another point for beating the Bot, who took four today. 2 points for me! Huzzah!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.

If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word ‘breed’ comes from the Old English word ‘bredan,’ which means to bring up, nurture, or rear. It is derived from the Proto-Germanic *bredanan, which is thought to be a causative form of *breþanan, meaning to “burn, kindle,” metaphorically suggesting to “cause to swell, impregnate.” This Proto-Germanic root, in turn, comes from the Proto-Indo-European root *bhre- or *bher-, meaning to carry or to bear children. Over time, the meaning of ‘bredan’ in Old English expanded to include the idea of bringing up or nurturing in a specific way, which leads to the modern English use of ‘breed’ to refer to the process of producing offspring or to a particular lineage or type of a domesticated species. The contemporary sense of ‘breed’ encompasses both the act of reproduction in animals and the cultivation of specific traits or characteristics through selective mating.
