Wordle Wednesday is back and with it a brand new riddle for you puzzle-solving Wordlers to solve on top of today’s Wordle.
Each Wednesday I add an extra little challenge in the form of a riddle, brain-teaser or logic puzzle in order to keep things spicey. Here’s today’s:

Things got off to a not-great, not-terrible start today with BRAKE. I had one green ‘E’ and later learned 175 possible solutions remained. I chose HOIST next and was pleasantly surprised to get three yellow boxes to add to the pile.
From here, I could only think of two words: lithe and tithe and I basically had to flip a coin. I decided to go with the word that had no double letters and ended up wrong. Still, I got TITHE on my fourth guess. It could be worse!

Zero points for guessing in four and the Wordle Bot only took three so that’s a total of -1 for me today. Lame!
How To Play Competitive Wordle
Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “tithe” comes from the Old English word “teogotha,” which means a tenth part. This word itself has roots in the Old English word “tēotha,” derived from the Proto-Germanic “*teguntho,” which also means a tenth. This further traces back to the Proto-Indo-European root “*dekm̥t,” meaning tenth.
Historically, a tithe refers to a one-tenth part of something, paid as a contribution to a religious organization or compulsory tax to the government. Originally, tithes were paid in kind (such as agricultural products), reflecting the agrarian economies of early societies. The concept and the practice of tithing are noted in various religious texts, including the Bible, demonstrating its long-standing cultural and religious significance.
