Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1068 Hints, Clues And Answer For Wednesday, May 22nd

Looking for Tuesday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here.

Welcome back, dearest Wordlers, to Wordle Wednesday—the happiest day of the week! Well, okay, maybe not as happy as frolicking Friday or sunny Saturday. Probably not as languid as lazy Sunday. But if you’re a Wordle-solver and lover of all things puzzle-related, it’s hard to beat Wordle Wednesday, even if it is smack-dab in the middle of the work week.

Every Wednesday, we spice things up here with an extra riddle, brain teaser or logic puzzle just to keep things interesting. After I give you the extra challenge, we’ll get on with our daily Wordle and then tomorrow I’ll reveal the answer. Let’s do it.

Today’s Brain Teaser:

A terrorist is going to blow up a bomb. In a phone call, the terrorist tells a policeman, John, and the policeman’s new friend, Zeus, that they need to solve this puzzle in order to prevent the explosion. They’re given two jugs—one 5 gallon and one 3 gallon—and a scale to weigh them on. They need to put exactly 4 gallons onto the scale. Any more or any less, things go boom. How do they defuse the bomb?

I’ll give you the answer in tomorrow’s Wordle guide.

Let’s solve this Wordle now, shall we?

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Glorify!

The Clue: This Wordle has an 8-point Scrabble letter in it.

Can you solve today’s phrase?

Okay, spoilers below!

The Answer:

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

I went against the GRAIN with my opening guess, though it wasn’t necessarily a good idea since I only got one green box and was left with 145 remaining possible solutions. SLATE—which certainly does not go against any grain of any kind—slashed that down to just 3: DEALT, LEAPT and EXALT. I chose the one I thought most likely, but was DEALT a rotten hand. In the end, EXALT was the Wordle. Praise be!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot who guessed CRANE / LEFTS (???) / EXALT. I swear Wordle Bot is cheating. I mean, he’s a bot. He uses aimbot! And wall hacks!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.

If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “exalt” comes from the Latin verb “exaltare,” which is composed of two parts: “ex-” meaning “out of” or “from” and “altus” meaning “high.” Thus, “exaltare” literally means “to raise high” or “to lift up.” This Latin term entered Old French as “exalter” and then passed into Middle English in the same form, retaining its original sense of raising or elevating in rank, honor, or power. Over time, it also came to mean to praise highly or glorify.
