Looking for Monday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:
Tuesday and I’m off on a short family vacation with my teenagers. No dogs, no dishes, no chores of any kind. Just fun in the sun and some water to swim in. I also plan on getting lots of reading in. It’s too easy to focus on all the other stuff—video games, TV shows, etc.—and then I go to read at night and promptly fall asleep.
I’m actually in the middle of a very good book at the moment, too, which I’ll be reviewing here on this blog. Oh, and I’ve started a book-themed Instagram page that’s just getting off the ground if anyone wants to follow me there.
In any case, one thing I won’t be shirking on my little mini-vacay is Wordle. A Wordle a day keeps the existential dread away and all that jazz. Let’s do today’s!

Wordle Analysis
Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.
My opening guess—SPATE—ought to have been better but the language gods were not satisfied and I was left with a whopping 381 words and just one lousy yellow box. CHOIR slashed that number down to 2, though I didn’t know it at the time. Still, I came up with two possible answers and picked the one that I personally thought was more fun: GECKO.
As the old knight in Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade would say:
Thankfully, I got it right on guess #4: DECOY for the win! That GECKO was just a DECOY after all!
Competitive Wordle Score
I get zero points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Wordle Bot who guessed in just three: CRANE / PILOT / DECOY.
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “decoy” comes from the Dutch word “de kooi,” which means “the cage” or “the trap.” In the 16th century, “decoy” referred specifically to a pond with nets used to trap wildfowl. The term evolved to mean any object or person used to lure or entice someone into a trap or away from their intended course.
