Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1236 Hints, Clues And Answer For Wednesday, November 5th

Looking for Tuesday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:

It’s Wordle Wednesday again, folks, which means I have a special brain-teaser for you to solve before we tackle today’s Wordle.

Here’s your extra challenge:

Four Animal People need to cross a dangerous bridge at night. They have only one flashlight, and the bridge is too dangerous to cross without it. The bridge can only hold two people at a time, and each person walks at a different speed:

  • Mr. Fox takes 1 minute to cross.
  • Mrs. Alligator takes 2 minutes to cross.
  • Mr. Orangutan takes 5 minutes to cross.
  • Mrs. Sloth takes 10 minutes to cross.

If two Animals cross together, they must go at the slower Animal’s pace. The goal is for everyone to cross the bridge in 17 minutes or less. How do they do it?

Let me know if you solve this. I’ll post the answer tomorrow. Now let’s knock out today’s Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Verily.

The Clue: This Wordle begins with two consonants.

Okay, spoilers below!

The Answer:

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

I somehow managed to guess two words and still get zero yellow or green boxes today. SPADE left me with 417 remaining possible solutions and BOINK slashed that down to 29. With zero correct letters, I chose CURVY for my next guess. It was about as good a guess as you could make without guessing the Wordle, leaving me with just one possible solution: TRULY for the win!

Competitive Wordle Score

Just like yesterday, I get 0 for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot who got today’s in three. Sigh.

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “truly” comes from the Old English word “trēowlīce,” which combines “trēowe” (meaning “faithful, trustworthy, or true”) and the adverbial suffix “-līce” (similar to “-ly” in modern English, used to form adverbs). Over time, the spelling and pronunciation evolved into Middle English “trewely,” and eventually into the Modern English “truly.”
