Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1294 Hints, Clues And Answer For Friday, January 3rd

Looking for Thursday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:

TGIF! The first weekend of 2025 is upon us and it’s gorgeous outside. A little too gorgeous. I went on a hike Thursday in workout shorts and a tank-top. That’s very unusual for January in the mountains. I’m not complaining, but the lack of snow or moisture of any kind is certainly worrisome.

In any case, we have a Wordle to solve and it’s 2XP Friday, so double your points whether they’re positive or negative. Let’s do it!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Not expensive.

The Clue: This Wordle has two vowels in a row.

Okay, spoilers below!

.

The Answer:

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

My opening guess, CRATE, was rather perfect today leaving me with just 12 remaining possible solutions, two yellow boxes and one green. I considered guessing a word with all new letters but then thought, “Why not just try for it in two?” I guessed CHEAP because I was convinced for some reason that the E and A would be together. Wordle Bot told me later that CAMEL would have been a better guess, but you can’t beat winning! CHEAP was the Wordle! Huzzah!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 2 points for guessing in two and 1 point for beating the Bot, who took three tries today. That’s 3 points. And since it’s 2XP Friday, I get 6 points altogether. Huzzah again!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “cheap” comes from the Old English “ceap”, meaning “trade, bargain, or purchase.” This, in turn, derives from the Proto-Germanic “*kaupō”, which relates to trading or buying. The word also connects to the Latin “caupo,” meaning “merchant” or “innkeeper.”

Over time, “cheap” evolved to describe goods that were obtained at a low price, and by the 16th century, it gained the modern connotation of something low in cost or quality.
