What It’s Like To Have A Portfolio Career

What’s it like to have a portfolio career? originally appeared on Quora: the place to gain and share knowledge, empowering people to learn from others and better understand the world.

Answer by Charlene Walters, PhD Business Mentor, Consultant, Corporate Trainer & Author, on Quora:

Having a portfolio career is just what’s needed in today’s job market. As an entrepreneur, it’s been vital for me!

I find that having a portfolio career keeps me motivated and prevents me from getting bored. I love the variety of projects and tasks that I work on. I also like being able to work with many different clients from a wide array of industries.

Having a portfolio career also keeps me on my toes, and helps me to gather new information as I work. I love learning and growing along with the projects I get. That’s what keeps me mentally strong and interesting.

A portfolio career has also enabled me to do the things that I like the most, and to match my clients’ ever-changing needs. Offering a wide range of services has also allowed me to maintain a steady income stream as a solopreneur.

As we move forward, I’m certain that more individuals like myself will turns towards a portfolio career due to its many advantages which, in summary, include:

  • Increased flexibility.
  • A steady income.
  • Variety and increased opportunities for learning and growth.
  • Ability to focus on tasks that you enjoy.
  • Catering to a variety of clients and industries.
  • Preventing boredom and burnout.
