Why Is ‘Marvel Vs Capcom’ Is Coming To Every Platform But Xbox?

Why Is ‘Marvel Vs Capcom’ Is Coming To Every Platform But Xbox?

During the Nintendo Direct yesterday, fans were thrilled to see the arrival of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, an all-time favorite series for many. The announcement came with the reveal that it would be coming to Switch, PS4 and Steam. And you…may notice something missing there.

That would be Xbox, and Capcom has declined comment when IGN asked why exactly that is. It’s even weirder given that in the same showcase, two Ace Attorney games are coming to Xbox One in addition to the other platforms, and that has left many fighting fans upset. All past Marvel vs. Capcom games have launched on Xbox, so what…is going on here?

No one seems to know with 100% certainty, and it’s being seen as a bad look for both Capcom and Xbox, Capcom as they apparently don’t want to do some sort of extra work or make some separate deal to come to Xbox, and Xbox because they weren’t able to convince Capcom to do so. There’s a possibly confirmed theory that it’s because Capcom’s MT Framework Engine no longer works on Xbox One, explaining other games that have skipped the console, but still, the point stands that Capcom doesn’t think the Xbox is worth the work to correct that.

The Xbox One is estimated to have sold almost 60 million units in its lifetime, many of which are still routinely played as this generation has retained many millions of players from previous generations. Many have been complaining on social media that Marvel vs. Capcom is skipping their platform of choice after a long history with Xbox, and again, no one can fully explain why and it’s been up to fans to theorize. It’s not a good look for anyone.

As for the rest of the platforms, all we have right now is a promised release year (this year) and the seven games that will come in the collection:

  • X-MEN CHILDREN OF THE ATOM
  • MARVEL SUPER HEROES
  • X-MEN VS. STREET FIGHTER
  • MARVEL SUPER HEROES vs. STREET FIGHTER
  • MARVEL vs. CAPCOM CLASH OF SUPER HEROES
  • MARVEL vs. CAPCOM 2 New Age of Heroes
  • THE PUNISHER

They will come with custom spectator and match features, a museum, a music players, display filters and one-button specials if you want to play that way. Sounds like a great purchase, and it really is a shame Xbox players are being shut out. But it’s Capcom and Microsoft’s problem to work out, and clearly they have not managed to come to an agreement to benefit players.
