With the latest Pixel 9 Pro Fold images and specifications, several design changes from the first Pixel Fold have been confirmed.
The details come from Taiwan’s NCC—a consumer electronics regulatory authority similar to the United States FCC. Listings for all four of Google’s upcoming smartphones can be found, along with their model numbers: the Pixel 9 (GUR25), Pixel 9 Pro (GEC77), Pixel 9 Pro XL (GZC4K), and Pixel 9 Pro Fold (GGH2X).
Crucially, the regulatory filings include images of the devices being certified, which gives us our first clear look at some of the critical areas of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
The first is the all-important hinge and crease. It does appear from these images that the depth of the crease—a necessary feature on any foldable display—has been reduced, but this could be down to the lighting conditions. How this looks and feels in practice will need to wait for review and retail units to arrive.
What can be seen from the pictures is an improvement in the hinge, allowing it to open 180 degrees and lie flat on a surface. It’s not completely level thanks to the camera island, which features on the rear of the folded phone sitting off-center when the Fold is unfolded, but it should be an improvement over the first Fold.
Speaking of the camera, Google has repositioned the internal display’s selfie camera. As suspected, it is now placing the camera under the top right corner of the display instead of sitting in the middle of the right side.
Unlike last year’s Pixel Fold, this year’s iteration of the foldable form factor from Google will be part of the main Pixel 9 line. That suggests Google is more confident in the success of the Pixel Fold brand. One thing that looks to remain is the price point. Recent listings by European retailers have the Pixel 9 Pro Fold with the same price as the Pixel Fold. While this may not translate to other markets, it’s been a reliable indication with previous premium smartphone releases.
