Latest Slim Phone’s Battery News Could Be Game-Changing

After Samsung released the Galaxy S25 Edge and Apple launched the iPhone Air, Motorola is pitching its tent in super-slim phone territory with the Edge 70. It’s not out yet but is already turning heads.

Thought to measure 5.8mm from front to back — the same as the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and fractionally more than the iPhone Air — the phone offers a new battery technology.

According to the Polish Motorola website, as spotted by 9to5Google, the new phone will have “a powerful and incredibly light silicon-carbon battery with a capacity of 4,800mAh,” it says (in machine translation).

That’s interesting because many had thought that silicon carbon would be the material Apple used for the iPhone Air, as its advanced and more efficient energy transfer rates can help a phone’s battery last longer. That’s crucial for a phone this thin.

The response to the iPhone Air is that its battery does well, so the traditional lithium-ion cell is up to snuff, it seems. That’s even though it’s a small battery, just 3,149mAh.

And, as you’ll have seen above, the Motorola battery is way bigger. In fact, its capacity is more than half as much again as Apple’s, clocking in at 4,800mAh.

It’s also significantly higher-capacity than the 3,900mAh battery Samsung put in the Galaxy S25 Edge.

The iPhone Air is arguably the first slim phone where battery life is good enough that you get a full day’s life out of it. Will the Motorola be the first that will glide through more than a full day without problem?

Other details are mentioned on the Motorola site, though it’s not clear how definitive or final they are. The pricing, estimated at between 799€ and 899€ ($927-$1,044) seems competitive and there are hints that the new phone will have decent ingress protection.

The new phone is thought to be launched on Nov.5, so less than a month from now.
