Today’s Wordle #1591 Hints And Answer For Monday, October 27

Looking for help with today’s Wordle? We’ve got you covered. Whether it’s just an extra hint, or maybe an extra hint and a clue, or whether you just want the answer, you’ll find it all below. It’s the last Monday of October—my how time flies—and Halloween is fast-approaching. Then it’s November, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas, New Year’s . . . and 2026. Let’s focus on the present for now and solve this Wordle!

Looking for Sunday’s Wordle? Check out our guide right here.

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

How To Play Wordle

Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer:

  • Green: The letter is in the word and in the correct spot.
  • Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in the wrong spot.
  • Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.

Use these clues to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot or even against me, your humble narrator. See rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post.

Today’s Wordle Hints And Answer

  • Wordle Bot’s Starting Word: SLATE
  • My Starting Word Today: CLOUT (247 words remaining)
  • The Hint: A word used to describe a stinky swamp, for instance.
  • The Clue: This Wordle begins and ends with consonants.

Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming!

The Answer:

Wordle Bot Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

CLOUT wasn’t a particularly good opening guess today, with 247 words remaining and just one yellow “T” to my name. SPATE felt like a good follow-up but I still had 31 words at this point and just two yellow boxes. When I thought of THIEF next, I thought it was pretty fitting given the whole Louvre jewelry heist story, but even that left me one short. FETID was the Wordle. That stinks!

Competitive Wordle Score

The Wordle Bot has suffered many grievous and embarrassing losses this month, but today the tables turned. I get 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot. The Bot gets 1 for guessing in three and another for beating me. Our new October totals are now:

Erik: 21 points

Wordle Bot: 5 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

“Fetid” comes from the Latin foetidus (or fetidus), meaning “stinking” or “having a bad smell,” which in turn derives from foetere, “to stink.” The word entered Middle English via Old French fetide in the 14th century. Over time, the spelling shifted from foetid to fetid, though both forms are still used, with fetid now standard in modern English.
