JBL Celebrates 80 Years With The Launch Of The L100 Classic 80 Special Edition Loudspeaker

As part of its global 80th-anniversary celebrations, JBL has announced the release of the L100 Classic 80, a limited-edition version of the company’s legendary L100 loudspeaker, marking eight decades of audio innovation and cultural impact.

The L100 was first introduced way back in the 1970s and soon became one of the most recognizable loudspeakers in JBL history. It’s look and sound were synonymous with the decade that produced some of the most amazing music. The 1970s were also a time of high-performance home audio and the JBL L100 Classic 80 pays tribute to that legacy by delivering refined acoustics, the latest materials and JBL’s build quality.

“The JBL L100 is more than a loudspeaker. It’s a symbol of JBL’s role in shaping how people experience music at home,” says Jim Garrett, senior director, product strategy and planning, at JBL’s parent Harman Luxury Audio. “The JBL L100 Classic 80 honors that legacy while reflecting the engineering standards and listening expectations of today. It’s a celebration of where we’ve been and how far we’ve come.”

Natural Oak Finish

Finished in a natural oak wood veneer and paired with a vintage-inspired brown Quadrex foam grille with a gold-and-black JBL logo, the JBL L100 Classic 80 speakers look the part. The design also features a black cone 12-inch woofer, selected to complement the warm oak finish and brown grille, along with a black satin wood baffle frame and anniversary edition badging on front and rear.

The JBL L100 Classic 80 is a 12-inch, three-way bookshelf loudspeaker engineered for stereo playback. The system has a cast-frame, 12-inch, pure pulp, cone woofer in a front-firing bass-reflex design. There’s also a 5.25-inch polymer-coated, pure pulp cone, midrange driver, plus a 1-inch titanium dome tweeter mated to JBL’s acoustic lens waveguide.

Tuned crossover points and front-panel mid- and high-frequency level attenuators enable listeners to tweak the speaker’s presentation to suit the acoustics of their room and personal preferences. The result, says JBL, is the “lively, engaging sound signature that has defined JBL for generations.”

A Collector’s Edition

Beyond its performance and design, the JBL L100 Classic 80 is also a collector’s edition to commemorate the brand’s 80-year legacy. Production is limited to just 800 matched pairs worldwide, each identified by an individually numbered commemorative plaque bearing the signature of principal system engineer Chris Hagen. Every pair is shipped as a complete system, including JS-150 speaker stands and is delivered inside a specially crafted wooden crate.

Designed for dedicated listening rooms and living spaces, the JBL L100 Classic 80 offers amplifier-friendly performance with a 4Ω impedance and dual sets of gold-plated binding posts for bi-wiring and bi-amping. The result, according to JBL, is a loudspeaker that honors the company’s most iconic design while delivering clarity, scale and emotional impact.

Pricing and Availability:

The JBL L100 Classic 80 will be available in limited quantities beginning in February 2026 and priced at $7,499 per pair.
