I first wrote about Blue Protocol for Forbes nearly six years ago when it was little more than whispers on the wind. Since then, it’s been confirmed for a Western release, canceled, hidden away, resurfaced again, and so much more on its winding path to a true launch.
As it stands today, it’s alive again in the form of Blue Protocol: Star Resonance, and this time it’s thanks to a new publisher called A Plus with plans for a global free-to-play launch (previously only China) this year across Steam and the Epic Games Store for PC, as well as iOS and Android.

For full clarity, this is not the exact same game but is instead an expansion of the Blue Protocol universe “with a vibrant MMORPG experience” according to the official Steam page description. In other words, it’s hopefully now going to finally be the game everyone was hoping it would be the first time around.

I never got a chance to try this one out previously, so I’m pretty eager to hopefully give it a real go this time around. I love the visual style and am really excited about the idea of something that seems to have really fast-paced combat in an MMO anime world.
One thing to note, however, is that it’s also coming to mobile platforms like the Google Play Store and iOS App Store so take that for what you will.
On its face it doesn’t necessarily mean anything, games like Genshin Impact are still very popular and successful and loved even though they’re also mobile games, but there are lots of counter-examples that show catering to a mobile audience can sometimes sour the PC experience. Time will tell which way this one will go.
I went ahead and added Blue Protocol: Star Resonance to my own wishlist and pre-registered for access. I’ll definitely be planning to check it out and writing up some thoughts when I get a chance to try it out for myself. Fingers crossed for an eventual console release as well!
