The next Apple Watch could be called Series 10 or, in a nod to what happened when the iPhone was ten years old, Apple Watch X. Either way, an all-new design is expected and a new leak gives us a clue as to what to expect. And there’s an answer to the burning question of whether current bands will fit the next model. Spoiler: they will.
The next watch, no matter its name, will have a bigger display than any previous Watch, including the Apple Watch Ultra, according to 91 Mobiles. The raw CAD renders show a Watch that has a two-inch display—Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch Ultra 2 both have the largest displays to date, measuring 1.93 inches.
And that means the next Watch will be a lot bigger than the Series 9 which has a 1.7-inch display. Note that Apple doesn’t discuss its Watches in terms of display size but instead by case height, which will also increase, obviously.
In fact, “Apple Watch X or Apple Watch Series 10 could launch in two sizes: 45mm and 49mm. This is a jump from the 41mm regular size that we see on Apple Watches. The current lineup is offered in 41mm and 45mm sizes for the Apple Watch Series 9 and a single 49mm for the Apple Watch Ultra 2,” the report claims
If you’re thinking that since Series 10 will offer a bigger display than the Ultra, at least in the 49mm version, it looks like the overall dimensions won’t be as big.
“This is bigger than the Apple Watch Ultra (1.93-inch) and Apple Watch Series 9 (1.7-inch). Interestingly, its dimensions sit between these two models and it’s smaller than the Watch Ultra,” according to the report.
It’s thought the new Watch measurements will be roughly 46 x 39.7 x 11.6mm. There’s some continuity, as the renders suggest the same Digital Crown and side button and a similar-shaped display.
And then there’s that burning question about the bands. Since the first Apple Watch there’s been backward compatibility for all Watch bands. But a recent rumor said the Series 10 would switch to a magnetic attachment system. Worry not, the new report says, as the current system of sliding the bands in looks like it will continue.
