The latest episode of Bang Bravern is leaning further into the humorous clashes within in its multifaceted mecha setting.
After the last episode, Isami is still sitting inside Bravern and sulking. Whereas Bravern is motivating the human military and undertaking a rather hilarious training regime.
Smith is also trying to deal with the discovery of an alien girl, and one that he is careful to protect.
Naturally, another alien attack occurs, this time out at sea, and both Isami and Bravern have to rise to the occasion.
With Smith getting into an unwitting fight with the alien girl, who we now know is called Lulu.
We also get an interesting snippet dropped by Bravern while fighting underwater. In order to protect Isami from the pressure, Bravern fills the cockpit with an oxygenated fluid.
Bravern says that this is the same stuff they used in the film The Abyss, to which Isami rightly questions; how would Bravern know that?
My guess here is that Bravern is probably some kind of childlike otaku from the aliens, obsessed with Earth’s culture.
It’s clear that there is some kind of sentient symbiosis going on with the aliens and their mecha, maybe Bravern is somehow a defective version of that?
Anyway, Bang Bravern is a fun and consistently interesting series. The crossover between more realistic aspects of the military and crazy super robots also drives a lot of the humor, which I am certainly enjoying.
I am definitely curious as to seeing more of the backstory and setting revealed as the show goes on though, especially that of Bravern and his origins.
