BenQ Launches Two New Aggressively Priced 4K Laser Gaming Projectors

The projector world is no longer all about movies. The huge leap in recent years in both interest in gaming and gaming graphics quality has seen more and more gamers turning to projectors to take their immersion in gaming worlds to a whole new level. BenQ has been at the forefront of catering for this new game-focused projection market, so it’s no surprise to find the brand expanding its game projector offering with two new models: The TK710 and TK710STi.

What is surprising, though, is how aggressively these new DLP models are priced for the eye-catching specifications they offer. The TK710 is set to retail for $1,799/£1,349, while the TK710STi’s RRP is $1,999/£1,599, despite both models offering laser lighting systems, 4K playback (using DLP projection’s pixel shifting technology), and the ability to play high dynamic range games or video.

These headline features are actually just the start of the TK710 and TK710STi’s attractions, too. Both are claimed to deliver a high maximum brightness of 3200 ANSI Lumens, for instance, reflecting their positioning in BenQ’s range as ‘casual’ gaming projectors designed to operate in a living room or spare room environment where removing all ambient light can be a challenge.

As well as video support for the HDR10 and HLG formats, HDR game modes are provided on both projectors to ensure that players with HDR-capable consoles and PCs don’t have to stick with SDR to keep lag levels low.

As well as helping the TK710 and TK710STi achieve their eye-catching levels of brightness, their laser lighting systems essentially remove the need for you to have to keep changing lamps across the projectors’ life time. BenQ quotes a lifespan of 20,000 hours for each of the projector’s lasers – enough for 10,000 two hour films, or (surely) to meet even the most extreme Call Of Duty addiction.

As with other recent BenQ gaming projectors, the TK710 and TK710STi will both carry a couple of specialized game presets optimized for RPG and FPS game types, while input lag times on both models is claimed to be 16.7ms with 4K/60Hz feeds, and just 4.2ms with the 1080p/240Hz feeds both projectors are impressively capable of taking in.

The main difference between BenQ’s new gaming projector duo is that, as the ST part of its name suggests, the TK710STi is equipped with a short-throw lens so that it can be placed in smaller rooms or, perhaps, nearer the screen in a regular room. so that it’s not as close to your seating positions. To be more precise about this difference, where the TK710 can produce a 100-inch image when 8.4 feet from the screen, and a 120-inch image from 10 feet, the TK710STi can produce a 100-inch image from five feet, and a 120 inch image from six feet. The TK710STi also ships with an Android TV dongle included, to provide the projector with integrated streaming capabilities.

“We recognize the need for dynamic, easy-to-use and versatile projectors,” says Houston Wei, senior director of BenQ North America. “With the TK710 and TK710STi, gamers and movie buffs can experience stunning imagery and fast-paced gaming in virtually any environment.”

Both of BenQ’s new gaming projectors are available now from the brand’s own US and UK websites, as well as other independent projector retailers.
